No where did I say I am an expert, in fact I mention just the opposite if you read some of the comments.
The burden of proof lies with you, show me some evidence that a 1939 Ford USA production vehicle offered a 4 cylinder and a 6 cylinder engine and I'll give you a $100. (tractors don't count, nor does a 1940 Ford sold in Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec of 1939) I'm hearing a chorus of crickets

O K. Looks like I miss out on the $100. Several years ago I met a friend who had a pickup. I remembered it as a 39 but it was a 41. So you are right. Sorry that my old memory let me down like it does too many times. John

Re: The rarest Ford hubcap in existence

OK, Here's where I got my information about what this cap is. it was from Jerry Wendley (I may have spelled his name wrong). He was involved in the start of the Ford V8 Foundation several years ago and he was looking for one of these caps for a 1942 Ford 3/4 ton. (He may have passed away) He contacted me through Jim Edison and I happened to have one of the caps he wanted.
As far as "rarest" it depends on how hard you're looking for a set of these caps. It was just meant to be light hearted entertainment on New Years day. Numerically the 3/4 ton trucks seem to be very scarce, and the tonner cap is designed different and won't fit the 3/4 ton.
As others have pointed out the 3/4 ton first appeared in 1940 so it may be possible that this cap was started in 1940 because of the 4 cyl being offered, although a 1940 sales brochure I have shows a 1939 Standard cap on the 1940 3/4 ton and the tonner has the large V8 as one of my photos show
Anyway if whoever thinks they got it right, I'll gladly send you a pair of NOS fiber rear axle seals, just send your address to me by PM.

NOSpartsman-this is fun and a good way to learn something, thanks!

One of my best friends who passed away had a favorite saying "the only thing rarer then that part is the guy that needs it" ! which probably applies to that hubcap!

Maybe a '39 passenger car or light commercial vehicle that was built with a little 60hp engine.

ps..I didn't read all the previous replies, so this may have already been mentioned.

Sorry, Pete. No brass ring for "fully restored" on that one. Not even close, and you don't have to be an expert to make that call.

BFD....The hubcaps on the car shown in that link are the same as the one nospartsman wants us to identify.

You must mean Jerry Windle, Editor, EFV-8 Club/America, V-8 Times Magazine. He is still kicking, and brings us one of the best little magazines that exists, every other month.

I know he owns a '42 Ford fordor sedan, 21A 73A according to the Roster. Possibly a US WWII military vehicle....could this be the vehicle he needed a hubcap for?? and possibly what THE Mystery Hubcap would be used for? Just a wild a$$ guess. I know Alan will probably shoot me down on this but I'm having fun!! :D :D

The above picture show the correct Hubcap used on the 1942 Fords. Also pictured is a 1942 Ford Fordor Sedan in full Military Dress. It is probably in the Special series. This vehicle belonged to Robert Schoen from Montana. It was on display at the Golden Jubilee Early Ford V8 Nationals held in 2013 at Lake Tahoe. The bottom photo shows a 1942 Ford Super Deluxe Tudor Sedan that has made its way to Australia in recent years. It has been suggested that the "mystery hubcap" (which this Post is all about) may be suitable for the 1942 Ford pictured in a previous Post. That is not correct, as the "mystery (rare) hubcap" will only fit the 1936 through 1939 Fords with what is commonly referred to as the "wide five" Wheel. A "wide five" wheel was also used in the early forties on the heavier "light duty" Ford Trucks. While production of the 1942 Fords was cut short on account of World War II, these Hubcaps may not be plentiful, they are not rare.

BTW, info I have says 4 cylinder was introduced on Sept. 24, 1940 along with the all new 90 HP six for the '41 Commercials.

For 1941 model year pickup production and beyond Ford removed the "V8" stamping below the Ford script on the tailgate because of the availability of both the 6 and 4 cylinder engines in addition to the V8 in the 1/2 ton pickups.

The same? nospartsman showed us a 'cap with Ford in script and the '40 SD has block letters.

Re: The rarest Ford hubcap in existence

3/4 ton actually first appeared in 1939, but the first year for 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder and V8 was 1941. This cap appeared on the early production 3/4 ton trucks in 1941, there were according to several sources about 2,200 made. as I stated before this meets all your criteria

I think I might have caused some confusion in the photos of post #18 which shows a 40 DLX cap for size comparison as is stated in the text. The cap on the left of that photo is the 40-41 Tonner hubcap. I knew that the cap of post #1 was 1942 3/4 ton, where my knowledge was week or wrong, is when the 3/4 was introduced.
Some Ford literature I have shows the 1940 3/4 ton with the same cap as a 1939 Standard hubcap. 1941 as Wooieman pointed out is when the cap of post #1 was introduced for 3/4 ton and I assume carried through to 1947 3/4 ton truck using the 1936-39 wheel bolt pattern and hubcap attachment, but I think they were split rims.
Where are the 1941-1947 3/4 ton Fordbarn owners?
Allanwoodieman and Ken of Alabama win the 1932-48 rear axle seals, both are correct. PM your addresses and I'll send them to you.
