1935 fuel sending unit 1 Attachment(s)
Could some kind soul please post a pic of the fuel sending unit on a 35 fordor? In looking at mine, I think a wire is missing, which may explain the inoperable gas gauge. Mine simply has a wire going to it, but does not seem to have a ground. Oh, and it needs to be a 35 - apparently the 36 is different.
Thanks in advance. (attached is what I'm dealing with). |

Re: 1935 fuel sending unit It appears you have a jerry rig outfit there, part hydrostatic and part electric. Which one are you trying to fix?

Re: 1935 fuel sending unit Well, I assume the one on the right. The thing that looks like another wire going up is actually just insulation.

Re: 1935 fuel sending unit The 1935 Ford did not have an electric fuel gauge, The electric sender unit pictured has been added to the tank along with an electric gauge in the dash. The original hydrostatic air gauge fuel sender unit can be seen in the left of your pic which also acts as a fuel pipe pick up and also as a tank vent.. The first electric fuel gauges came out in 1936 model year. The ground for the electric fuel sender is via the metal fuel tank to the chassis frame. Regards, Kevin.

Re: 1935 fuel sending unit Thanks Kevin - that's sort of what I thought. So, then, it appears the newer unit is missing a wire? There is a raised screw just to the right of the unit, almost like it was there as a ground connection. I could probably ground from one of the screws on the electric sender to that screw is what I'm thinking.

Re: 1935 fuel sending unit Why do you think the sender unit is not getting a ground ? Is your gauge not working ? That wire that is curving around could be a ground wire but photo is not good enough to see where it is connected. Regardless the sender unit is probably getting a ground through its tank mounting. Regards, Kevin.

Re: 1935 fuel sending unit @koates - No, the gauge doesn't work. It only reads completely empty. I'm working on figuring out why (I know there are several reasons) but it doesn't look to me that there is proper ground to the sending unit, especially when there is a screw right next to it.

Re: 1935 fuel sending unit ground the wire that has the black shrink while watching the dash gouge ,the indicate needle should rise ,

Re: 1935 fuel sending unit Has the original gauge on the dash been replaced or a 36 electric gauge replacement?

Re: 1935 fuel sending unit @deuce lover - it has a 36 electric gauge
