Cone Shaped Front Wheel Bearing Retaining Washers Just ordered two front wheel bearing retaining washers which are slightly undersized so I can put on dust caps. Don't know why Henry forgot those. Anyway, the new washers are slightly conical in shape, and I don't know if this is by design or by cheap manufacturing. I have never seen this before. Should I crush them flat or install as-is? If I install as-is, which way do they go, raised center hole facing in or out?

Re: Cone Shaped Front Wheel Bearing Retaining Washers I think it must be a manufacturing fault .They should be flat to work as designed .

Re: Cone Shaped Front Wheel Bearing Retaining Washers I put dust caps on my front wheels years ago and just ground down the washers that were on the car originally. Work slowly to keep them round. Remember, patience is a virtue. One of the few virtues I still have.

Re: Cone Shaped Front Wheel Bearing Retaining Washers Maybe they are conical to allow inward clearance; if flattened wouldn’t fit??
I’d be skeptical of getting and maintaining thrust on the bearing |
Re: Cone Shaped Front Wheel Bearing Retaining Washers if you put them on, do they hit the top edge of the bearing? if so i would turn them around.
any i have seen have been flat. |
