Charlotte assembly plant

the 1924-1932 Charlotte NC Ford assembly plant was designated a historic landmark by the city council last week.

current owners plan to restore it into office and retail space, but the historic designation requires approval by the city/county historic landmarks commission of any material alterations.

A lot of the Ford Assembly Plants are being reused for other purposes although a few are completly gone.

Great to see that Charlotte will be fixed up for reuse.

Thanks for sharing. I've got the Charlotte stamp on my 1929 Tudor. It was bought in the late 1960s from a fellow in Rutherford county, just west of Charlotte.

The Queen City Model A Club recently participated in a special weekend with the new owners "Camp North End" and brought our Model A Fords into the building on a Friday evening for the public and then the Club was able to come back on Saturday when no one was in the plant and line up all our Model A's for a photo shoot in a plant they could have been built in! How cool is that?

Great to hear of this, hope more of the remaining plants can gain the same status. Jim Langley...

I remember my dad telling if his uncle, with whom he lived near Charlotte working at the plant in the 20's, one of his first jobs was as a driver who hopped in the finished car at the end of the line where the wheels were lowered to the pavement which would start the engine and he would drive it to the parking area. I have two gold coins the uncle found on the sidewalk outside the plant.
