bent axle 6 Attachment(s)
Had a mishap the other day...hit the kerb HARD, bent the axle both ends outboard of the radius rods, bent drag link, tierod, bent LH stub axle. Will attempt to straighten axle, will definitely replace each stub axle, steering rods should straighten out ok.
Last month, had an accident on my '46 Harley; hit a ute coming the other way. Got a helicopter ride from that one.... All my vintage vehicles are currently off the road with front end damage! |
Re: bent axle Glad to hear you are doing okay.

Re: bent axle Thanks Zeke! 2020 has been a difficult year on many fronts. Happy New Year!! It can only get better!

Re: bent axle Not good Brian, hope none of your important bits suffered any serious damage. Vehicles able to be repaired damaged bodies not always.

Re: bent axle Thing is, I've had that 35 since 1971, done probably a million miles in the old thing. It's gone through many transitions through the years, been the test mule for multiple engines I've built, I've raced it, thrashed it, abused it, done everything in it, strewth, it shares my DNA...
And currently it's running a bone stock 36 LB engine, and Columbia with 3.54 std gearing [about 2.5:1 in o/d], which it was in, driving along at 70 KPH when I applied the brakes; it instantly pulled onto the opposite side of the road, into oncoming traffic, I corrected [overcorrected] and went into a four wheel locked up drift straight into the kerb, mounted it, crossed a grass median strip, and parallel parked in a car park!! Totally unexpected, totally out of control, total duration probably 2-3 seconds!! Upon the teardown I have observed the LH brake linings are contaminated with [I guess] brake fluid. Scariest ride I've ever had, I never want to repeat it. And I wasn't being a hoon. |
Re: bent axle Brian good to here your OK, but brake fluid ,are you using those new fangled brakes, you know they will never take on.LOL
I bet you got a fright, good job you were,t going fast. And as Phil said, cars and bikes are easy to fix , not so us.take it easy mate. Lawrie |

Re: bent axle Sorry to hear about your misfortunes. The car can be fixed. The bike, I'm not so sure. I got my motorcycle all ready for the season one spring a few years ago, and rode it around the parking lot once. I sold it that afternoon.
Sometimes, you just know. |
Re: bent axle I've got a axle available. $50. Good condition.

Re: bent axle Hopefully the parts I have for you tomorrow will get you started on the road to recovery. Think we have an axle and stubs. Just need to dig them out of the piling system .

Re: bent axle Brian I’m glad you’re ok.
Earlier this year I pulled the front suspension from my 35 convertible sedan to find it had a bent axle, tie rods etc and also bent the frame a little. I’m thinking it was a tree stump by how much and where the axle was bent. Anyway the axle and stub axle is now a wire wheel painting jig(cut up a worn out brake drum) to paint and check wheels for straight. Too much bend for me to bother trying to straighten it again. Stay safe everyone over the holidays. |
