Model specifications, colors and interior

Hi all,

I am currently renovating a 1931 Briggs Fordor that has been my fathers since 1972. The project is not quite at the finishing level yet, but I am slowly starting to think about painting and interior. It is unclear to me if the colors it came with are the original ones. The green color is also found on the firewall, so the paint job appears to have been properly done if not original.

Does anyone know whether this color combination was originally found? Notice also the white stripes down the sides (don't know the proper english term for it :))
And related I was wondering if it's possible to say which colors and finishes of the interior were relevant for this model and/or color combination?

Also, can anyone decipher the exact model specification of the car? I've gotten this far, it's a 1931 model 3-window Fordor, Briggs body style :)

Any help is much appreciated!
Dan

Dan: Find out where the closest Model A Ford club is to you. Someone there will have a copy of the Judging Standards . That will answer a lot of your questions. Good luck, Bill

Hi Bill,

I actually already became a member of the club, and have met with a couple of guys previously. But all gatherings are currently prohibited in my region due to covid - with no signs of a reopening in sight. And the club is not so active online as the Barn :D

Guess I have to rediscover my patience :)

Just buy a copy of the Restoration Guidelines & Judging Standards from one of the national clubs. All your restoration questions will be answered in that one book. $55.

Mark makes a good point below about country of origin.

Depends on if it is American or outside the US built Model A, re Restoration Judging standards. Dkfordor, you might add your location to your profile and if this A was imported from the US at some point later or if known, where it was assembled. Different parts of the world may not have had the same colors etc.

The factory only had one green color combination for that car. It was Kewanee Green for the Lower Body and Reveals plus Elkpoint Green for the Upper Body, Belt and Sill Mouldings.

Your car appears to be one shade of green everywhere. The pin stripping on the doors does not appear to be correct.

Re: Model specifications, colors and interior

The serial (VIN) number is just a sequential number, does not say what body style, color where made etc of the car. Looking at the chart in the link below for Briggs bodies, you will see the first number is Fords which is what you would have used ordering body parts from Ford and Ford body style lists. The S/N Prefix is the body builders number which is what you will find on the Briggs body tag. Briggs used there own S/N prefix before the body serial number. The counts are combined for some styles. For example; 155A/B(Ford), Briggs and Murray were combined for total count of 1929 Town Sedan 4 door bodies. https://www.mafca.com/downloads/Tech...dy_Numbers.pdf

Thanks for the input everyone - much appreciated!

I am located in Denmark - not the US. I expect the car to have been assembled here - good point by redmodelt about that. I have not yet been able to trace the history if the car - it is on the to-do list sometime next year.
I know there was an assembly point in southern Copenhagen at least.

Anyone knows if records were kept about color schemes etc. used at assembly points abroad?
