Instead of advertising we pay yearly fee?

Instead of Ryan selling advertising rights to recoup expenses how be all Ford Barners pay a yearly minimal fee of say $20 dollars. A true bargain for what the rewards are. What say ye?

I think there would be a lot of work needed to run forum charging and collecting a membership fee. Not everyone pays on time, keeping track of when your subscription needed renewal, now it’s a business with accounts receivable.

Having a few advertisers to help off set costs would be much easier for everyone.

Just my view, please don’t come at me on this.

Over on the HAMB, we pay $50 a year for no ads. Not everyone over there pays. By the same token, if you register, you shouldn't see any ads. BTW, there are a number of vendors that extend discounts to HAMB Alliance members. Same thing at the Garage Journal.

Finally, I see no ads here on the 'Barn as I use a name and password.

I'm thinking a "Donation" button on the Home Page would suffice. Strictly voluntary.

The Jalopy Journal also sells HAMB Alliance items to help make ends meet but this is only one of his multiple forum sites. With the other brother forums, a guy like Ryan has a lot on his plate. To do the same things on all the different sites would be harder to keep up with on a limited budget. I'm all for what ever he has to do to keep all this stuff going. I'm sure it's more than just a full time job to the man.

It seems somewhat unfair that you provide a very helpful service To Model A enthusiasts with money from your own pocket. If we can afford a Model A we can surely help subsidize this site. A free ride should not be expected or given. As a group we indeed thank you for your generosity ! Wayne

Yes I would donate to it like a shot. This forum is part of my life, along with several others that I read twice a day. I pay monthly for the Jaguar enthusiasts forum, which has about 50 new posts every day. Fordbarn also has many new posts to keep me occupied when sitting resting after work.
I donate to Wikipedia and many other great information sources too to help ensure we never lose them.
So I support a voluntary "donate" button if not too much work for Ryan.

A donation fee is how it's done on "Pinside" which is a pinball machine forum that I frequent every day. Also there is a small fee if a game is sold through the Pinside marketplace and it's based on the advertised price of the game. Anyways, just something to think about.

Go on the HAMB board and click on the HAMB Alliance button. It's $50 per year and a person will get a HAMB Alliance tag as part of the deal. This is all voluntary but the HAMB Alliance has a lot of discounts from the commercial sponors such as Eastwood, Coker Tire, So Cal Speed Shop, and Wheel Vintiques to name just a few of the businesses that offer discounts to Alliance members. There is a list of all the folks on the HAMB that offer discounts.

The Ford Barn, Garage Journal, Jockey Journal, Gear Journal and Jalopy Journal (HAMB) are all a part of the Atomic Industry group. You may not have interest in traditional hot rods and customs or the other sites but that would be where you can contribute if you wish. I have a few of those tags myself but I'm getting behind.
