Firestone tires Too Big? I just picked up a set of Wheels with 4.75-5.00 19" firestone tires
for my model a. It's a 1931 Slant window with rear mounted spare. My question is will they fit my car? They look big, about 3 inches taller than the 5.00-19 that are on there. I figured all 4.75-5.00-19 tires should work. They're standard blackwall firestone sold by coker. Is anyone else running these tires on there A? Thank you in advance |
Re: Firestone tires Too Big? I had the same problem with the Coker 6.50x16 Wide Whitewall Radials, they were an inch too tall and would not clear the front fenders when turning.
If yours don't clear or you don't like them, return them immediately before the 30 day (or whatever it is) return policy passes. I paid $1500 and would up selling them for half price. I will try Lucas or Diamond tires when I am ready to try again. |
Re: Firestone tires Too Big? Your Firestone tires will work just fine. If you do buy wrong size tires You shouldn't expect the seller to accept returns.

Re: Firestone tires Too Big? I’m in love with the wheels and tires. I had them shipped across the country.
I can’t return them anyway. I was just checking to see if anyone knew whether they’d fit before I waste my time installing them. |
Re: Firestone tires Too Big? Just curious, what brand tire did you have on there? 3" is a pretty big difference for basically the same size tire.

Re: Firestone tires Too Big? I measured and they’re roughly 1.25 taller my mistake. I have Brazilian Goodyear ww
5.00-19 |
Re: Firestone tires Too Big? You can't really compare the tyres until you have the new ones mounted and inflated. Even then, a few miles of driving on them - get them warm a time or two might still change their profile.
Don't get yourself in a lather just yet. |
Re: Firestone tires Too Big? Yes, 31ASlant, the Firestones are larger. They'll fit fine and give you a good ride. I also have a rear mounted spare, but I heard that the folks who have sidemount spares have a little trouble fitting the Firestones in the fender wells. Some say you may have to deflate the spare and carry an air pump.

Re: Firestone tires Too Big? Excellent news. Thank you.
I’ll post a pic tomorrow when I get them installed. I paid a pretty penny to get these wheels here and I was panicking after reading that they may not fit. |
Re: Firestone tires Too Big? If you got the tires and wheels together why not just install? Why change rims ?

Re: Firestone tires Too Big? 5.00 x 19 is larger then 4.75 x 19. Bigger the number , bigger the tire.

Went from www to black tires.....liked the look, made the car look more substantial. The w/s frame (note chrome) is an extra from a 400-a I had many years ago.
Both sets of tires are Firestone. |
Re: Firestone tires Too Big? I bought a set of 18" Coker B F Goodrich tires couple years ago for a '32 Plymouth. They were 3" larger diameter than the old Cokers. Spares would not even begin to fit in fenderwells. I am not a Coker fan no matter what the brand.
