Grab handle

Just curious about a design to mount a grab handle utilizing two of the dash mounting screws on passenger side on my coupe. My passengers, especially the captain, seem to reach for something to hold onto when I corner, even at low speeds. The door handle is what they first go for even when I request they not do that. The Cap thinks it would be ugly, so she thinks we don't need one. I think that a nicely finished teak or hardwood wouldn't change the overall look (daily driver) and would add to the comfort of my passengers.
Ideas?

Do you have seat belts installed?

Rumble seat grab handles would look nice if you could get them attached securely....

I saw this grab handle 'somewhere' and always wanted to either find a similar one or fab one.. My CEO has a hard time getting in my Town Sedan. I think the shape of it looks sorta period correct.

Re: Grab handle

I might have to eventually do something like Y-B shows above to aid in getting in and out of the vehicle (CCPU is probably the most difficult). I did get the door to open wider and that helps. As far as after she gets in, the retractable seat (lap) belts I installed pretty much satisfy her for the rest of the trip.

It seems like your captain is causing problems. Get rid of her and get a captain that is a little easier to get along with. Captains are over rated.

Y Block,
I agree. That's a nice, kinda art-deco look. It would be perfect for what I'd like. Most new trucks with running boards have a handle for getting in and out.

Sorry, but after 50 years, I'd be the one going. And as the Cap says "nobody else could put up with me and if she's younger, I wouldn't know what to do with her.";)

If you can’t get rid of her, send her to obedience school!

You sound like a misogynist.

Hi Gufshoz
Let her drive every second sector.
In the business of ‘high speed pressurised aluminium tubing’ (airline flying)it is customary for the Captain and First Officer to share the sectors. During poor weather conditions, in oder for the Captain to free up some ram, the First Officer(copilot) will do the flying.
Regards
Retired Captain

I like this simple and neat grab handle. Blockhead, thanks for sharing. I recently had a 94-year-old WW2 veteran in my Victoria, and a grab rail would have been helpful for him. So I plan to fabricate one like it.

You can buy one in that shape but black color at your Ford dealer. It is an assist handle for the newer pickup trucks. .

I'd be tempted to fabricate one out of 3/8" stainless tubing.

Tubing would work. I’d be more inclined to make a pattern out of wood and then have a specialty foundry cast it in aluminum or brass. That way you could even add in a bevel on the bottom of the bases to fit into the countersunk holes in the dash panel.

The one issue keeping me from fabing one is I don't want to drill mounting holes in my dash rail.

I have some ½" schedule 80 S/S tubing I have from extending my Mitchell Shifter I was looking at. Might be hard to bend tho.

Isn't the one pictured just picking up existing mounting screws?
