Noisy Hood Hooks

I'm sure many of us work hard trying to eliminate the unnecessary noises in our Model A's. Any car is more pleasurable to drive when it doesn't squeak and rattle. There has been an annoying sound in my Victoria which I think I have traced to the hood hooks. The noise has gone away when I dripped some 600W in the top of the hood hook but it comes back after 10-20 miles. Has anyone used some other lubricant to silence this squeak? Ed

I put a plastic cap on the latch part. I think they were from wire shelving.

I used 3/4" pieces of vacuum hose. Nice and quite and paint is not marred. Think I got that idea from someone else on this site.

Mac’s and Snyder’s sell small rubber tips to slide over the hook ends. Stops rattles and paint damage.

Thanks for the post. This is the first time I’ve heard of such a product. This seems a bit different from the earlier posted links.

Re: Noisy Hood Hooks

I posted a link to the bumpers that mount on the hood in reply to the post talking about them not being available in post 5 that have been edited.

Re the hood hold down; make them out of black vacuum line tubing. Sure the end would not be closed but would do the job.

Re: Noisy Hood Hooks

I use a short piece of appropriate diameter PVC tubing, Durable and works well.

I dipped the handles in black Plasti-Dip. Should have dipped the whole end!

My experience is totally different. I’ve had a set on 3 A’s for over 4 years with no problems.

Re: Noisy Hood Hooks

if you look at original hood hooks, they had a well-formed little finger that fit nicely into the hood latch. unless more recent repros have changed, repros I have merely have like a small rolled tube in lieu thereof. my repros don't fit as precisely as originals.

Heat shrink tubing shrunk to fit works good also. Durable and Easy....
