Battery Shortage (not Shorted) Does any one know of a 6 volt Model A battery that is sealed (no fill plugs) besides the Optima? Apparently there is no stock of Optima's anywhere and no parts house can order them.

Re: Battery Shortage (not Shorted) This outfit sells AGM look alike batteries for certain makes & models but they are even more expensive than the Optima. Here is a link.

Re: Battery Shortage (not Shorted) I see at least one in stock at Advance Auto Parts in Greensboro NC and another in Tyrone GA. Not suggesting you drive across the country, but try going to your nearest AAP and asking them to look up the closest store with one in stock.

Re: Battery Shortage (not Shorted) The local AAP says there are none in California and it can not be ordered due to haz mat laws not allowing batteries to come across California border. I hate living here. Thanks for your suggestion though.

Re: Battery Shortage (not Shorted) Speedway shows them in stock. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Optim...-CCA,7163.html
I'm in CA and put one in my basket and filled out shipping info and nothing about not shipping to CA. |
Re: Battery Shortage (not Shorted) Looks like Speedway Motors is a winner. The website took my order and said it would be delivered by 7/1. $31.63 shipping + $27.85 for the privilege of living in California and $239.99 for the battery. Thanks for your assist.

Re: Battery Shortage (not Shorted) I do think it's worth noting, for any newbies reading the thread, that Optimas aren't mandatory. Lots of folks have them, they work great, but you can get a 6V tractor battery for under $100 that will probably work just fine – especially if your starter is in good condition.
Not a judgment on the OP, if you need an Optima go ahead and buy one. I have two. |
Re: Battery Shortage (not Shorted) I agree with you 100%. The reason I wanted the Optima was it is a sealed, maintenance free, non-spillable battery. I don't have to worry about fumes and explosions while charging or checking cell fluid levels. You are correct, there are a few different wet cell batteries with fluid/vent plugs in the $100 dollar range. I just like the piece of mind. Just my personal opinion.

Re: Battery Shortage (not Shorted) The Optimas are very nice, I've used them in the past. But back then I think I paid $79 for it. Just a couple months ago I saw them for $149. I thought about it then, but my lead acid battery is still good, so I passed. I guess that was a mistake!

You could always add battery oil/de-mister to your lead-acid battery and get much of the same results. My battery is ~10 years old now. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...8&d=1656452490 |

Re: Battery Shortage (not Shorted) Texas became a state to get the protection from Mexico after their San Jacinto loss. The Mexican war of 1846 was fought by the future leaders of both the Union and Confederate forces of the Civil War but that pretty well put an end to future wars with Mexico with only the 1912 excursion into Mexico to find Pancho Villa being an exception.
Now days all the folks south of the border want to come up here to live. This is what you call an invasion without a war. The only balance is all the US citizens that are moving down into the Baja to live. That battery oil just puts a barrier on top of the electrolyte to slow down out gassing. It's no guarantee that the water in the electrolyte won't boil out. It would just slow it down some. A person would definitely have to keep their battery full with that stuff in there. |

Re: Battery Shortage (not Shorted) I've lived in Texas for 42 years. Unfortunately, we can't secede; however, we can split in to 9 individual states. We would get 17 additional Senators. Interesting!
