Side curtain pan iastallation
 

I am in the process of installing a reproduction side curtain pan in a '31 Roadster.


It appears that the pan attaches to the underside of the body sub rails and cross channels. Is this correct.


Does anyone have a good picture of the pan as installed from the underside of the body as well as a picture from above.


My car has all the original sub rails and cross channels in place and are not modified but all the floor sheet metal had been removed before I got the car.

I believe it also attaches to the floor pan under the seat. My mid-28 Roadster never had
one,..BUT the pan is the same for some closed cars and has the holes for the curtain
pan..

Let me clarify the question I have.


Does the curtain pan drop in from above or is it attached to the underside of the sub rail and cross channel bottom flange?


I purchased a reproduction curtain pan from Brookville.


As it is currently made, it will not sit down onto the bottom flange of subrails and cross channel without a little trimming at the rear corners of the pan.

It will fit under the lower flange of the subrails and cross channels but I do not think this is correct. This would mean that the pan would be placed from below up against the flange of the sub rails and cross channels and riveted in place. This does not seem correct but it would work.


I think the pan should drop in place from above and the front and sides of the pan would rest down against the flange of the sub rails and the cross channel. The rivets would go in from above thru the pan then thru the flange and staked from the underside of the body.


I have been looking for a good picture or other information but can not find it.


Any help would be appreciated.

At least on a '29 roadster, goes in from above but a tight fit...be prepared to trim just about any repro metal body parts

The curtain pan is the same for 28-31 so I am sure it installs the same way for all the years.


That is what I thought but I wanted to be sure.

It drops in from above. I have three roadsters and they all drop in from above.

Chris,

Not ALL the 28's had the curtain pans,..AND not ALL early to mid 28's had
the "rumble seat stop supports" on the rumble seat pan,...welded on the
bottom side..

CWPASADENA: here are some pictures of the floor in my 31 Roadster when I was removing it. I hope they help. Notice the 3 semi-hidden rivets under the seat backrest riser (pencil).
