Radiator Splash Shield Fitment

2 Attachment(s)
All,
In order to get the holes in the front fender to align with the splash shield holes, it seems like the splash shield doesn't fit the inside line of the fender correctly. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hard to be 100% sure with these pictures, but I think your fenders are not set up properly. Looks like the that forword point is push towards the center and up.

How does your light bar fit with no fenders on the braces?

You can find hints on setting up the fenders in the link to my website below.

sideways photos are difficult to read, not helping your inquiry.

Sorry guys, can't understand why my pics are rotated.

I'll check the fit of the light bar tomorrow. It seems like the fender matches up well with most of the shield except for the forward point.

are these original parts?

Re: Radiator Splash Shield Fitment

Yes, as far as I know everything is original. The holes on the fenders line up perfectly with the frame and everything else looks good, just seems like the holes in the shield won't line up correctly.

Re: Radiator Splash Shield Fitment

I am wondering, are the holes in the shield too far forward, or too far back to line up?

somethings wonky... can you get a pic of the inner part of the fender where the hood latches are? like have the pic show where its meeting with the splash apron and down the side where the hood latches go...something looks too wide/ not wide enough - not sure if its the fenders or the splash apron...

Re: Radiator Splash Shield Fitment

Seems like the holes are too close together which spreads the front point. I'll do some fiddling tomorrow and get better pics to share.

Ya know what I would do, and this applies to every place with multiple screws to fit, loosen all the screws on the hood sills and fender and see how that lines up.

A long time ago, I realized that you should keep associated fasteners somewhat loose to allow final fitting to prevent situations like yours.

If you tighten fasteners that will be attached to other parts, you may experience hole alignment problems.

Take front fenders. Count the many places they attach to other parts. Rawhide Kid talks about this..

Just want to mention that the later 30-31 splash aprons are different from the earlier 28-29 aprons....

What year is the car?

I rotated your images for you. I thought it would be helpful.

Thanks Ken, I appreciate that. I did some additional checking this morning.

This is a '30 Tudor. All fender bolts are loose and the light bar fits good. I ran a straight edge along the fender and it looks good, not so with the shield. I also measured about 1-1/4" from the fender bolt hole to the edge of the fender. On the shield that dimension is less than 1". Understanding that the shield needs some work, I don't see how I can make up that 1/4".

I can't tell in the 3rd picture, but original aprons are convex on the side panels, while repro ones are flat.

Re: Radiator Splash Shield Fitment

Thanks Tom, they do have a slight curve to them, but I'm wondering if I should ty to pick up a better one, maybe in Gettysburg. If not, any recommendations for a good repro? Thanks again.

Re: Radiator Splash Shield Fitment

The back of the splash pan should be flat and the corners at a 90 degree angle. Get that squared away and I think you will get the extra length you need on the side panels.

Re: Radiator Splash Shield Fitment

Maybe I didn't explain correctly, but it's not the length of the sides, it's the hole placement.

try and original apron. that looks to me as an inexpensive reproduction and most of them do NOT fit, with out some work.
