Electric wiper motor for 36 pickup Who makes the best 12 volt electric wiper motor for a 36 Ford pickup?
Most of the vendors have them but its hard to tell from a picture. Thanks, Bill |
Re: Electric wiper motor for 36 pickup Bill, I have used Specialty on a couple of different '36 projects. (found out from searching HAMB site that Specialty may have gotten the idea from English folks about using the cable system.) On the '36 sedan I built with Specialty wipers, I got the aluminum tube to bend up the right side OK with no problems. On my '36 pickup, I could not get the alum. tube to bend right. I wound up using plastic tubing from Home Depot to route the cable. Well, Ok, 'cept the plastic tubing flexes and the wipers wind up wandering. I had to put stops on the arms to keep them in the wipe arena. Problem is the wind at speed really kicks the hell out of the arms to make them wander. Now, really, how many of us drive the old cars in adverse conditions. You have to weigh the alternatives. Hope this helps.

Re: Electric wiper motor for 36 pickup I think New Port Engineering makes a unit for your truck. I have their units in three of my cars and they all fit and work very well.

Re: Electric wiper motor for 36 pickup I just went through this with my 34, after a lot of trial and error I went with a Lucas cable drive twin wiper system.Fitted up with out much trouble, used early Morris / MG ? parts which uses a flexible outer ( like an emergency brake outer casing) this is much easier to install than the steel tube system. Runs smooth and quiet even with the drive motor inside the car behind the dash.

Why...the Japs of course!!! I went to the local Auto Wreckers and bought a wiper motor outta a Jap hatchback. Nice and slender [fits within the confines of the rear hatch/header area of a 36, and sweeps through 120 degrees]. Think it was a Ford Laser, point is, there is a multitude of late[ish] model hatchbacks that can furnish nice small compact, reliable wiper motors, that are just too easy to adapt. |
