59A Valve Gallery Oil Present.
 

59A Flathead Engine Standard Bore.

So just pulled off intake manifold to replace sheared generator securing stud. 9/16 UNC.
Noted in the valve gallery some oil present? Correct me please if my thoughts or assumptions are wrong.
There should not normally be oil present here or not. Oil if here will drain back to oil pan via?
This engine has good compressions and good oil presssure. Nil oiling of plugs.
However it uses some oil and noted at acceleration. Reported engine has few miles on rebuild.
Could this oil in this space be taken into combustion space and burnt via inlet valve guides.
The presence of oil in this valve area has me thinking.This area is where the oil is being used as opposed to getting past rings and burning?

There should be plenty of oil or at least signs of oil in that area. It drains back to the crankcase through the holes covered by those shields that clip onto the oil feed tube.

I put a couple of magnets in the little recesses in the middle of that area.

Much appreciated for your clarification. Under the shields for the drains no wonder I did not spot them!

I know what I'm doing next time my intake is off!

I love breaking open obsolete computer hard drives and getting the magnets out of 'em! Strong as wolverine piss! They will not wander.

Here's what you DON'T want to find. This was in the '37 block pulled from one of my cars last winter.

I bought a set of 10 Neodymium magnets off of eBay. I needed one to activate the Schwinn computer on my bicycle. They were cylinders about 3/8" in diameter and 3/8" long. Those suckers are STRONG. I think I may put a couple in the valley and pan of my newly build 258" 8BA.

JB Weld one onto the oil drain plug? Hmmm.

All info is much appreciated. not a great deal of sludge in valve valley.
But will remove inlet manifold again, Remove attached covers on oil line and visually check drain holes are all clear.
Then continue with the long term plan of an engine swap and attend to hone, rings and valve guides for oil consumption.

The old Pennzoil was a high sulfur oil. We always ran it in the 60s/70s because of all the racing advertising they did, it was the hot in thing. Every engine I ever tore down that had been running it was a sludge mess!!!

So today removed inlet manifold to access valve valley area again.Removed covers on oil feed line. All drain holes are clear. Thanks to Mart for info supplied. Will either be nil seals at inlet valves or glazed bore for the cause of my oil usage. This will happen some time!
