Do I need a new distributor body? Can someone tell me what the dimension should be between the opposing contacts inside a good distributor body. Mine are measuring 2.372” and 2.382”. I am surprised at the .010” difference and since my rotor to contact distance varies from .033 to .038 depending on which contact the rotor is lined up with I am wondering if new bodies have a tighter tolerance between contacts. Thanks.

Re: Do I need a new distributor body? Don't have the spec, but the only NEW cap I have is 2.410/2.413
Used, I have 2.371/2.376 & 2.430/2.432 (Original I believe) I don't believe it is all that critical. I wouldn't worry about it. May not be a spec. |
Re: Do I need a new distributor body? With only a .005" difference rotor/body I think you're good to go.

Re: Do I need a new distributor body? Thanks y’all! I feel better about it now.

Re: Do I need a new distributor body? You can file down the conductors a little to even out the rotor gap if you need to.

Re: Do I need a new distributor body? A good spark from rotor to contact point will jump about a quarter inch. That’s what I look for.

Re: Do I need a new distributor body? I had no idea. I was under the impression that it had to be like a spark plug gap. Thanks for this information!

Re: Do I need a new distributor body? The distributor bushing will have some wear causing a difference in the distance/clearance. The body isn't going to be or fit perfectly.
