Still finding things in my late Father's garage. All Dad wrote on it was 35 Ford sedan. Anyone know what it is? Anyone in need of it? Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I'm not going to scrap it. Would rather it go to a good home. The only marking I could find on it was "2". It's a solid piece. I'll try and figure out how to post it on the Swap Meet. PM me if anyone is interested.

Thanks for your responses. I have received conflicting results on the part ID. Dad masking taped on it many years ago "35 Ford Sedan" on the part. If I list it on the Swap Meet I wish it to be accurate. i recognize it's not a sought after part however I am unwilling to scrap a piece of history if someone wants or needs it. Dad knew his stuff about Fords so I'm inclined to believe it is indeed '35. If interested PM me.

tomcarman……. For the 35 spare mount, you can find the part number embossed into the cast iron on the inside of the mount including the suffix letter "-A", "-B", or "-C". Three different tire carriers are listed for '35s depending on body type: 48-1433-A (models - 700, 730, 740, 750); 48-1433-B (models - 710, 720, 760, 770); 48-1433-C (model - 790). If indeed it is a '35 carrier, that embossed number will begin with a "48-" prefix. Can you find that embossed number? DD

The first picture below is a '33-'34 carrier. It stands taller than the '35 carrier when sitting on a flat surface as shown. It's not as robust looking as the '35. The detail shapes are different. Compare the '33/4 in the first pic to your green '35 in the second pic. Like I said above, look for that "48-" prefix on your green mount! DD

Thank you for the insight. I looked inside and sure enough there was a cast serial #, albeit obscured. I reached in there with a small wire wheel on the cordless and got a lot of crap off it. Upon inspection all I could identify was the veritical portion of what should have been the 4, I could definitely identify the 8 and the dash ( - ). Beyond that it appears the casting was made on a Monday. Think I'll just save it as a wall hanger as it appears there's no interest for it. I'd like to thank you for the excellent info and photos.

Now that you have established that this Spare Wheel Holder is for the 1935 Ford, you now have to determine what body style it is for. You can see that they are different heights? The Part Number is cast inside, as per photo. Hope that this helps.

Just as iin 1935, the 1936 Ford Spare Wheel holders also came in different heights, depending on which body style it was intended for. I know that the Grey one is off a 1936 Ford Phaeton. With these old Fords, you live and learn.

Thank you Mercman. Interesting photos compared to the one I have. Your 1st photo shows the SN near the lip. The part I have the SN is down inside. Also, in the latter two photos the subject appears to be stamped, wherein mine is cast and much more stout. Also the SN in my piece is mostly obliterated from the casting. I wonder if Ford figured out a way to save a nickel at some point by stamping instead of casting, paricularly on overseas vehicles.??

No, I won't scrap a piece of history. I'll make it a wall hanger for car keys, or perhaps cut an old hub center, bolt it onto the part, hang it on the wall and drape my coat on it. Who knows but without destroying the part it can be repurposed in useful unique ways so if anyone is in need of 35 spare tire mount I have one. Still finding much "stuff" in Dad's garage. I sure miss him. Hope you all understand.

Elaborating on V8COOPMAN's post, in addition to differences in height, the mounting surface where they attach to the body differs between them. The A-suffix version's mounting surface is convex, the B-suffix version's is concave, and the C-suffix version's is flat.
