F1 6 volt electric question
 

Hey Gents

I added turn signals about 3 years ago (seven wire) with led rear tail lights (with resistors in line for each) and utilize front parking lights for turn signals.

All was working well until last night. I noticed when headlights are on. I have tail lights, but no brake or turn signals. During day time all works as it should but I noticed my flasher is slower than normal.

Do you think it’s the flasher or the cheap turn signal switch has crapped out.

Andy, do any of the four corners blink? Do your brake lamps light?
A new flasher is cheap and easy to replace. That may prove to be a quick way to ether fix the issue or eliminate that part of the system as a possible fault.

Day time driving, yes brakes and turn all good
Night time headlights and taillights work, but no brake or turn.

Found out last night, coming home from Tom’s shop:) I would have grabbed a flasher from Tom had I known:)

Check your grounds also, had to do that with a ‘50 sedan I had. I removed all the ground wires and wire brushed every connection, I even added extra flat braided cables from engine to frame and frame to body.

Are the headlights putting too much of a "load" on the electrical system??

Just to be clear... all lamps work properly during the day?

When you say NO brake or turn, that includes the front lamps as well?

Did they all work, all the time, in the past?

Yes all brake and turn signals work during day
Yes all worked for past 3 years.
Yes fronts too don’t work with headlights on.

Update, I found 6 volt flasher in my stock. Installed and same results. At this point I think turn signals switch is faulty.8

The only part of the 2 systems connected would be your tail lamps? The only way the headlamps and signals are together is a common ground in the tail lamps. Just my guess that you may have a sketchy ground in the tail lamps. LED's and resistors kind of throw wrench into the works for me to understand.

Just wondering what you did with the front park lights. Originally they are set up for single filament bulbs. Are both the park light wiring and the signal light wiring connected together to the same filament? If so the flashers won't show since the park lights are giving power all the time.

I'm just working on mine. I switched out the single filament connector and put in a double for 6V 1157 LED bulbs. I just found and ordered some positive ground LED 6V 1157s from Aliexpress. You shouldn't need resistors if you wire in dash bulbs. There are spots for them on the speedometer to indicate turns.

For the next Barner: It was the ground. I had them grounded to the frame. Guess after 3-4 years daily driving bare metal rusted.

Glad you found the problem, I spray my grounds with fluid film and my battery terminals also. I used to have a problem with my riding lawnmower battery getting all corroded over the winter, I sprayed it liberally with fluid film and it looks like new in the spring.

joe .....I've never heard of the stuff, either. Done just fine ALL these years without having to buy some new 'Miracle Jizz'! Hell, smear some Naval Jelly or Petroleum Jelly out of your medicine cabinet on these bare spots, just like you've always done on battery posts, etc! DD

90% of electrical issues are ground issues.
