I know there are a lot of classic car insurance companies out there. Want to know the best. My issue is that I have a project and I have heard some won't insure in any state of project unless its complete. What is your experience with this??? I have over $18k in parts (exactly what I know the truck is worth). What companies will work with me and whats the procedure? Thanks

Thank you for posting this, and for the responses. I am ready to insure my fordor, and went to the Hagerty website. Was surprised at how reasonable they are. That is who I am going with. Not affiliated with them in any way.

American Family has a very reasonable special coverage for project cars.

Grundy covered my truck while in the project stage. Sent them some pics and told them how much I had in it. Reasonable rates too.

I also use Grundy. Very reasonable rates and they are excellent when it comes to handling their claims. The vehicle whether a runner or a project must be stored in an enclosed building. Car ports are a no no.

Same here. 10 years with Grundy. Had one claim for damaged front fender and they had an adjuster to my house to make an acessement very quickly. Recieved a check about 2-3 days later. Rates are also reasonable.

I have JC Taylor, too. Not sure about the others, but with JCT, after two cars, they provide a discount on additional cars, assuming you can't drive them all at the same time, I figure.

Agree. Both are excellent and the premiums are really about the same at least for me. Currently have Hagerty on two cars and Grundy on one. Both are very good.

I have Hagerty, my car is complete so I don't know if they cover projects. I am happy with the price I pay for the year.

Hagerty does a lot to support the hobby. I don't have insurance through them, but their level of commitment to the hobby seems to exceed others.

For guys like me that don't paint them, are they ( Hagerty) ok with that? I am by no means a rat rod guy, I like them stock and safe, but some of my stuff looks 'unrestored' and a friend said his company wouldn't insure cars like that. My trucks have always been on my business insurance as regular workers, but I have a few now that don't haul anything and would like to go 'collector' on them.

They do agreed value. Your premium reflects the value you insure your car for. I don`t think paint would be an issue.
