Those "valve caps" would allow you to change valves without removing the head.

They say 27 Model A

I guess they are saying "early 28"?

Is that even a Ford engine? It looks a lot older than 1927...

If it's a Ford engine at all, it predates the Model T. Note that the engine is headless.

I don't know what it is.

That looks like the Original first Model A engine 1903 -1906 ? i am guessing about the date...Remember Ford made the model A way back in the beginning then decided to make the Model A again later in 1927 ... REB0b in michigan

It's not the 1903 Model 'A'. That one was a two cylinder horizontally opposed layout. Nowhere on these drawings does it say it's a Ford Model A. The seller in all ignorance is calling it an 'A'.

Could be one of the other models up to the T if it's a ford at all.

I don't understand how the valves and sparkplug are connected to the cylinder? It looks like its blocked off with a water jacket in between.

I don't think it's a straight sectional cut. I think they've cut down through the valve chamber for no1 cylinder, then dog legged to the cylinder of no2 cylinder to give you a view of both areas.
