Emergency Brake Boot

When I removed the carpet so that I could remove the floorboard, I had to arm wrestle with the emergency brake boot to free it from the carpet. I’m getting ready to but the carpet back down.

What is the best way to get the boot back where it needs to be in the carpet? There has to be a better way... Should I remove the emergency brake handle and slide the boot off? Maybe I’m missing something.

I believe the carpet is supposed to be on top of the boot if that makes sense, so you can just slide the carpet on top of it. Unless I am misunderstanding the question?

This one is a really tight fit. The previous owner had the carpet just above the final rectangular flat part of the boot. I hesitate to make the carpet hole bigger—I don’t want the carpet to fray.

It's rubber, be the boss! You can't hurt it.

Well... that was way I got off in the first place. I was just home there was a more “graceful” way to do it. ;-)

I did buy a spare boot. I just don’t want to tear up the carpet. I thought there might be a technique that I was missing.

Try putting some Dawn/water on the boot to make the carpet slide down easier.

Vaseline is an option, just don't let anyone see you lubing up that rubber. :D

FYI, although you probably know this, the Model A originally came with no boot on either the parking brake or the gearshift lever.

I just installed my floor boards and used spray silicone on the boots, it worked great they slid right on no problem.

No, I didn’t know that. Thanks for sharing.
