LED Focus Here is a picture which compares the focusing of LED vs Incandescent bulbs. The pictures were taken with a clear plexiglass lens. The adjusting screw was adjusted to give the smallest (most concentrated) pattern.

Re: LED Focus Bob, Are these the lights shined on a flat wall or did you stand in front of the car and take a photo of the headlight? Nice work, by the way. I would be interested in the view from the front seat with both lights illuminating the road ahead with the normal lenses in place. You may have to use the same exposure time and f number to get an accurate comparison. Not sure how to do that with a modern electronic camera.

Re: LED Focus Paul Shinn has a great video on YOUTUBE on how to focus headlamps with LED bulbs

Re: LED Focus The lights are shining onto a piece of cardboard about 3 feet in front of the car. The intent of the pictures was to show the focus of the bulbs and not the intensity so the exposure is not relevant.
Below are pictures that show the brightness of the LED bulbs compared to Halogen bulbs. Note that Halogen bulbs are brighter than regular incandescent bulbs. These pictures were taken at the same exposures. Bob Johnson http://www.modelahouse.com/images/LED-Halogen01.jpg |

Re: LED Focus 2 Attachment(s)
Proper focus of incandescent bulbs at one car length, this is with old Mazda brand bulbs, original reflectors, first picture is with lens, second without, I have looked at several modern production bulbs and the filaments are obviously out of place and formed as arc instead of V,
At a car length the round ball of light should be a little larger than a basketball and well defined if the focus and filament location is proper |
Re: LED Focus 2 Attachment(s)
Halogen bulbs, though the without lens the camera put in some background flash, the "ball" of light is not as well defined due to filament shape differences from original, and the with lens pattern is good but not as well defined, they do project light very well at longer distances, 35watt direct fit with generator
Now let's see some led patterns at a car length both with and without lens. |
