Want is the cheapest and safe way to ship some thing across country ? Need recommendations please. Weight maye 40 or 50 pounds. Thanks in advance !!

I have used Fastenal dozens of times with good results. Recipient pays upon pickup, seller just drops off package at local Fastenal, no sweat for the shipper. I have shipped (and received) fenders, mounted tires and other odd shaped things using them without a problem.

Fastenal usually doesn't accept shipment into Ca. but other areas they are great.

It would be nice to know what you are shipping? Any chance it will fit in a USPS flat rate box?

I've gotten to where post office on smalls
Fedex on bigger
Greyhound if absolutely necessary

Sorry it is a brake shoe rearcher machine. Somebody told me it weight was 105 pounds

100 or more sounds right. Use the post office if you want it to get lost, or arrive broken.


I just mailed a restored generator from Minneapolis to Cincinnati with priority 2 day mail. After the post office sent it to New Jersey twice, it finally arrived at the correct address 9 days later.

Tom,
Maybe you should start posting how wonderful the post office is and how much you love their service. Then they might stop picking on you! :) I ship 1st class packages and have had few problems. My wife uses Priority Mail Regional boxes with good success. We have had more trouble with Fedex Ground.

Hey Bill,
It is VERY interesting to read the input , so far.
If you read said input, you might just want to drive the goods there yourself.
However, I do rely on what others ACTUAL experiences have been and am thankful for that sharing.


My own experience and advice is that I've never had any problem with FEDEX. I have shipped over 100 lb packages with them...all antique auto stuff.


Your question is timely for my latest experience this Saturday (3-31-18).
A guy shipped my head back to me via UPS from Ohio. This is/WAS a very expensive OHV Head. UPS destroyed that piece of antique auto history which had survived in pristine condition 87 years !!
The shipper has a UPS contract/agreement, I guess. UPS...packed this item !!


Anyway, 10 years ago UPS similarly destroyed another rare auto part that I shipped with them...I packed it.


At least you now have some data to work with. I also like USPS.

In my business, USPS Priority is now used for small packages, UPS for medium/large ones. We don't use FedEx unless requested by customer. We have a 99.9% success rate with breakage since we hand pack everything with styro peanuts and bubble wrap, and we double-box if need be. UPS and FedEx have gone to dimensional weight pricing, so charges jumped quite a bit on the smaller ones, thus the switchover Post Office. Truck freight only for large pallet shipments, and then we go to Unishippers.com

Try U Ship. Go on line to uShip and put in the info. A number of shippers will respond.

I have shipped many times into CA with Fastenal, no problem. They have over 2000 stores nationwide and some of them act as if they are the boss. Call the national office and get the story straight, I doubt if Fastenal is turning business away based on a local store operators opinion.
