56 Victoria stock rear drums

I've been trying to source rear drums for a 56 Victoria with a stock rear end. Now I know MACs sell some but they are quite pricey and people I know have had quality issues with them in the past. I'm also on the other side of the world that doesn't help the price point either.

I wondered if anyone knew of a interchange part.

They are an 11" x 2-1/4" drum as far as I can tell and the wagons for 56 are different. I have no idea if the 55's are exactly the same.

Did the 54 have similar drums? I know from 57 the rear end changed and with it the brakes too.

Would raybestos 2626r work?

No those are for a 10" drum they have been used on 1952-54 Fords. Your '56 had 11" X 1.75" brake shoes. You could use the 2626R if you switched to 1952-54 backing plates and shoes. I'm afraid Mac's has you over a barrel on those, those drums are also used on the popular 1957-59 Ford 9" rear ends they know how to make a profit.

Try cgfordparts.com. Their prices seem a bit more reasonable. I'm going through the same exercise for a '55 Merc. The fronts are 11 inch ID and take 2 1/2" shoes, the rears take 2" shoes, 5" bolt pattern. Anybody know of something more readily available for later FOMOCO products or even other makes?

Concours in Carson City lists them:

But as I guess you know they are not cheap. 170 bucks each with shipping

Looking at it from a different perspective, the '56 Victoria rearend is the same rearend that is used on '55 & 56 sedans, so if you knew of a junkyard that has a drum pile, maybe you could rifle thru it and find some good ones. Keep in mind, the wagons, T-Birds and F100 Trucks had a different rearend, so take a tape measure with you and make sure to match diameter and depth to your drums.

Thanks guys. I wanted to make sure they have me "over a barrel".

I might upgrade to a more common rear end in future but my car is basically stock except for a wiper motor and distributor. I'm going to try to keep it this way a while yet.

For what you will pay for those drums you can just about swap to a later and much stronger Explorer 8.8 axle with disc brakes and a locker and stronger 31 spline axles. Maybe some one might know or has tried this, check out the prices on these drums and the shoes I looked up a 1979 LTD with a 302 and found these as dirt cheap deals so could you use these by also using the matching hardware kits and also the self adjuster kits for an additional upgrade ? https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...+hub,drum,1744 Other possibility will the later model backing plates bolt up to the earlier rear end ?

The 8.8 swap is a nice swap, but not that easy as there has to be a number of modifications that must be made to get it fitting right.

This guy is the real deal and local to me, give him a try if you get stuck finding parts.

I found some locally. Ajays in Waihi had some. Still pretty expensive. Thanks guys.
