oil pump options for pressure oil center main

A number of people have suggested I consider a system that provides pressure oil to the center main to extend it's normally short lifespan. Does everyone agree this modification is a good idea?

Stipe makes an alloy hi-volume oil pump but it's more than $350. Are there other oil pump options that work well, but cheaper? Someone mentioned to me there's someone on the forum that modifies v8 oil pumps for an A, anyone know if they're still in business?

You can just use the A pump. Drill and tap it, and the main brg. cap, and run a 3/16" copper line from pump to cap. Don't over-think these things.

There was a interesting discussion about this a few years back:

Dennis Pirano makes a center main oiling kit that is cheap and easy to install and includes the tap to the A pump and drill bit. http://modelaparts.net/
Takes about an hour.

I believe that the guy who converted the V8 oil pumps for A/B use, is no longer doing that service. He is a 4E4 guy and used 59A..B flathead pumps for his conversion. He, Cliff, partly machined some housings, then his health and "life"...got in the way ! Hoping that he gets well enough to do that work again, as his finished product was like a piece of jewelry ! Beautiful reliable pump !!

Joe Sevil (sp) in Turlock (dba: Turlock Machine ?) makes an A/B pump of alum and hardened chev gears. It is CNC alum bodied..nice piece of work like the Stipe pump, but a bit less $.

Cliff has not done anything in his shop since his wife passed. With that and his bad back, he mostly just sits. Too bad, as he is a great guy. He was a machinist by trade, and his pumps reflected that. I've done those pumps for myself and rarely tossed one in the trash, Cliff tosses the regularly.
