1940 Ford Coupe Headliner Question I am having trouble trying to figure out how to install the headliner in my 40 Coupe project. Does anybody know exactly what is required above the door openings on each side? Any pictures would really help. I bought a Labonny Barron interior kit. The instructions refer to a "grabber strip" on each side above the doors on the roof line. Is this a seperate piece that screws to the roofpanel? If so , I am missing these parts.
Is there a good reputable upholstery Trim Shop that I could hook up with to get some experienced answers to this question? Any contacts would really help us here. Thanks for any input or ideas. Steve p.s I already called BL and they no longer have technicians that have the experience to answer this . |
Re: 1940 Ford Coupe Headliner Question The grabber strips fit over the door openings and slightly turn down the windshield post. They have teeth on them that holds the headliner when it's gets tucked behind them.

Re: 1940 Ford Coupe Headliner Question The grabber strips are not reproduced. You'll have to find them used. The strips from the front of a fordor sedan or from a tudor sedan will work. You'll have the shorten the ones from the tudor. You do need them to retain the headliner. Don't forget to replace the tack strips on the door posts for the windlace to attach securely. Trying to use the old tack strip material is a losing proposition.

Take a look at this and watch the video. I bet you could use this flexible tack strip with some "creative thinking" and drilling mounting holes in it to mount to the car. The OEM strips do come up once in a while on Ebay. For the price it's worth a try. https://www.sailrite.com/Flexible-Me...CABEgIBHPD_BwE |

Re: 1940 Ford Coupe Headliner Question See if you can get a list of the former authorized LB installers in your area. They could probably help.

Re: 1940 Ford Coupe Headliner Question the grabber strips show occasionally, I just parted out 2 fourdor sdns and am using the strips. They do also rust out from condensation. Newc

Re: 1940 Ford Coupe Headliner Question FWIW, I believe the correct term for the "grabber strips" is Door Tins.
