hi all
i'm from Massachusetts and I was wondering if anybody knows if my 50 ford pickup needs to have seatbelts any any other safety equipment added so it will pass inspection. we do have a seat belt law. thank for any info you have

I am from California and you don't need seat belts in cars in California that did not come with them originally. Children in cars are another set of laws that may require them but I don't know. In any case I would put them in.

I am from Mass, and I would check with your local inspection station where you get the sticker for your car. They will know the requirements. I believe it is the same in MA as in CA as Charlie pointed out. I have a Model A that gets inspected every year here and they never question seat belts because they are not original to the car. (Grandfathered). I do have seat belts in the A though. Would not be without them. I am not sure when they first came as standard equipment, but Ford offered seat belts and a deep dish steering wheel as a safety option somewhere around '56. Had a '53 Victoria in '59 and put my own seat belts in.

i put them in my 48 coupe too. ya just never know, ya know??

I'm in East Texas and as far as I know that law is generic throughout the states, I know that here if it didn't come with them then you don't have to have them.

Remember...If you install you must use them at all times.

I think that Ford first installed the deep dish wheel and seat belts in 1955. The gag at the time was that Ford sold safety and Chevy sold cars.

I would definitely install directional signals. Most people today don't know hand signals and may think you are flipping them the bird and run you off the road for starters.
