Update on burning points.

Just thought I would update my thread about burnt points and hard starting.
I reversed the coil connections, installed a Japanese-made 0.022mf condenser, a set of USA made points, set them at 16thou and installed the dissy. Roared into life on the first crank of the starter (after sitting for over a month). I guess the whole thing happened because I had the coil wired the wrong way.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Update on burning points.

It's a minor point, but I am really interested in capacitor ratings because of my "BBC" project. Do you really mean "0.022 mfd condensor"? All of the 8BA type condensers we tested were in the .23 mfd range. I don't doubt that it will run fine with a .022 mfd unit, because one of my early prototypes used a .047 mfd unit and the engine started easily and ran well. The difference in capacitance would manifest itself by burning points prematurely.

Would of been good to hear that roar!

Marty, I'm finding your little saga here quite interesting; Didn't you get Bubba to build up that distributor? Doesn't he use some 'special' condenser in his builds? What has he had to say about it all? I'm not throwing stones, just asking what I consider to be valid questions.
Incidently, I use those Bosch condensers for a Skyline, available at Supercheap stores...they have the same capacitance...

Hiya Brian. Hope all is well. Yes, Bubbas did do that dissy. It was my fault because of wiring the coil back to front, so I am casting no aspersions whatsoever. I still have the condensor from Bubbas, I only put a new one on because I had it in pieces. I'll save Bubba's one for a spare, or maybe put it back on one day.
