Dificulty starting model A Ihave Difficulty stating car partiularly when the engine is hot.The engine turns
well and has new spark plugs and new condenser .once it eventualy starts it runs well. |
Re: Dificulty starting model A Are you flooding it by choking it when hot starting? Are you retarding it fully? Checked the timing?

Re: Dificulty starting model A What type of points/distributor do you have? If points, what are they set at? Do you have a bright blue spark from the coil when cold? How about when hot, the same intensity?

Re: Dificulty starting model A The carbs are rather basic; mine does that. I retard the timing full, then cheat and give it a slight advance. Throttle to the floor as with any flooded carb, idle mixture 1/4 turn open. It should start if this is the only time you have trouble getting it going. I plan to build a carb myself and see if I can manage to improve this.
Actually, my '77 LTD does that, to a lesser extent, but also carbureted. Starting cold it's fine; if it sits for longer than 20 minutes but less than 2 hours, it's a bit flooded. Carbs are finicky animals. |
Re: Dificulty starting model A Lift a spark plugs strap a good quarter inch above a spark plugs then turn over engine, should be a nice hot and regular snap. Point gap that has closed up can make weak hot starting.
