What year is this truck?

I ran across this truck in the woods in Stehekin, WA. You can only get there by boat. The engine is gone. Does the steering wheel give it away? Is that a spark advance lever? Looking for what you think. The "W" on the firewall is the same as a '33 (I think), but what about the steering wheel?

Too bad. Look at the drivers side fender; it appears that wasn't bad when it was left there.

Why do they have to shoot holes in everything?

I think the parking brake handle may still be good. Interesting that the gas tank is still there.

Hard to tell from the photo but does it have parallel rear leaf springs? If so, a 3/4 ton or larger?

It was a logging operation and it was left to be cannibalized.

the fire wall is desirable to the fools that put modern motors in the model 40's, as it fits rite in, but has a bit of a set back for more clearance.

Re: What year is this truck?

51504bat...I do not believe that Ford made a 3/4 ton until 38. The pictures appear to show the remains of a 1 1/2 ton. The headlight buckets on it appear to have been changed out at some point after seal beams became available.

Re: What year is this truck?

My guess would be '35 as I don't see the reinforcement "X" stamped in the side of the cowl. Hard to tell in the pictures.

Re: What year is this truck?

My guess is '36 because of the "hand-holds" in the doors to grab the doors when closing. Or maybe a '35 with '36 doors.

Hi Everyone. I hope this doesn't muddy things in the discussion of commercial/truck ID's, but in this thread about '35 Roadster doors (https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=302899) DavidG added to the information with:

Lo and behold, all of the revised windshield-related items carry 48-prefix part numbers, not 68-prefix part numbers.

I'm curious if the stamped-in X's that are not consistent on the open cars through the 35/36 series, have any relevance when thinking about closed cars or our subject vehicle, a commercial?

I'm guess it's a '35 Model 51, short WB. These are pictures of my, unmolested '35. It looks the same to me. If you look lose you can see the "X" , same s mine and if you look even closer, you might make out the lower W stamping below the upper one. Look more and you can see the patent plate in the middle of the X.

I also took one of the door grip and molding.

It's a 36 you can tell by the windshield posts.

Re: What year is this truck?

1936. There is a difference between 1935 and 1936 where the windshield post meets the cowl.
