'39 trans to '37 V8?
 

Howdy boys, I'm wondering if a '39 trans would bolt up to a '37 V8? Not a V8 guy, so I'm lost on this subject. Thanks.

If you have a V8 60 motor, I don't think it will bolt up.
The trans is different and I think the Bell housing and back of block would be different.

Clutch arm may need to be changed to 37 style?

Clutch arm needs to match year of car that the trans is mounted in, if all else is stock.

As an aside, back in '64 before I knew any better, I bolted a V8-60 up to the stock trans in my '39 after the 85-horse died. Starter, clutch....everything worked just fine! DD

Just notch the case to clear starter drive and it works.

Can do! The case is the same. Assuming you haven’t got the ‘39 yet, you can gut your own case and replace the innards with the ‘39-‘48 gears, and put on a ‘39 shift tower. Get hold of Mac Van Pelt for the needed parts for the conversion.
PS ~ this is much preferred if your tranny is original to your car, having the serial number that is on your frame and on your title.

Great response from you guys! I am hoping to put the V8 on a Model A frame, and use as much "stock" stuff that I can, for those years. And yes, I'd like to use the mechanical brakes also. I know, I know, I should use juice brakes, but I don't want to, damn it! With Flathead Ted's floaters, I think the brakes will be fine, as long as the are kept adjusted properly. I have them on my Model A pickup and really like how well they work. One other question, how about mounting the V8 in a Model A frame, and use the stock Model A steering box? I've heard there is some adjusting that has to be done in order to miss the left exhaust manifold. Your thoughts please. Thanks guys!
