timer assy question? Update fixed
 

hello
I have a 1923 t i have had a true fire system for over 30 years but i think it is going bad i am going to switch back to the coils and timer and roller assy my questions is witch way dose the roller go on the shaft which part of update I found that the wire harness from coil box to timer was bad replaced and now back to driving again thanks for all the suggestions it helped very much Kevin

The slot in the roller is oriented to the front of the car. The pin is then placed into the slot and hole in the cam shaft. Then place the small cap over the cam shaft so it covers the head of the pin. Then place the nut on the end of the cam shaft to hold everything in place.

Unless you have one of the camshafts with the hole all the way thru!

Never seen it. I cannot picture Ford drilling the hole all the way through. Think about the mess he would have had with production.

Ford did drill the hole all the way thru on some cams.

Not bad if you remember which way the brush/roller mounted at TDC.

You wouldn’t need to know TDC otherwise.

You are going to need find TDC to time it properly anyway. :)

i have the roller on and coils it runs better but on a slight incline it has no puwer and when shifting into high it stumbles and take a little time to get up to speed. i do not have a compression gauge. next i will look at the intake gaskie it has been a long time since they have been change. at least i can drive now before i could not get around the block

Stumbling could be: driver, too lean fuel mixture or wrong spark setting. Or, all three. :) Which intake gasket do you now have installed? If fiber type, they don't last long so may need replacing.

i have the copper gasket buti will replace it has been on there a long time. when i turn it off it will back fire

Do know how to do a vacuum leak test? Check for vacuum leaks first, don't just replace something to replace it unless it needs replacing. :)

Start the motor, play the tip of an unlit propane torch around where the intake attaches to the block. If there are any changes in RPM or motor sound you may have vacuum leak. You could also try WD-40 or oil.
