Transportation A friend of mine needs to have his '28 Sport Coupe moved from Visalia CA to Williams OR which is about 583 miles.
Any suggestions for a Transportation company ? |

Re: Transportation I replied to an email about this .....
The last time I was in California - I picked up this and brought it back to New Hampshire ..... There is a waiting list of cars in California to be hauled to the East. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/a...8&d=1371891812 The trip referenced by the OP - from California to Oregon - involves more unloaded than loaded miles to make it happen ..... ;) I would recommend going after this yourself with a trailer ..... Re: Transportation You could try Rick Powell - racinman on here
He is just about to pick up a T and an AA in Arizona and take them down to Long Beach for me [email protected] or 864-324-1571 It was Rick that moved the Model T from Ashland down to Phoenix in the first place. Super nice guy and keen pricing. |
Re: Transportation I've had a very good move recently with Horseless Carriage. Quick service, friendly and attentive driver......I'd use them again..

Re: Transportation I moved my 1930 Phaeton from Connecticut to Texas with Passport Transit and was very pleased with the entire experience. I’ve moved other vehicles before, so I had a good point of reference and Passport did an exceptional job of being on time (actually beat pickup and delivery date), keeping informed as to the status and location of vehicle via an on line tracking ability. The driver called to let me know where he was and when to expect him. The carrier was in excellent condition and my vehicle arrived in perfect condition. Contact John Scharff at 800-325-4267.

Re: Transportation I've tried to remove the bold type and can't, don't even know why it's coming up in bold type, it wasn't posted that way?

Re: Transportation Look at where he wants transport ....
@ http://goo.gl/maps/BQHsr Then you will understand about the unloaded miles I recently hauled this Model A from Northern California to Southern California - the owner had waited awhile for a haul then ended up paying me to drive unloaded from Anaheim to pick it up http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attach...6&d=1374153789 Again - cars are waiting to be hauled from California to the East Most haulers will not give up a load of a few thousand miles in favor of a few hundred miles .... ;) Jim |
Re: Transportation Ok I will bite what does unloaded miles mean?

Re: Transportation Take a few days off and drive it up...done it a few times in my 29 Coupe. Just sneak around the Sacramento traffic and you are good to go.
Have some fun! Pluck |

Re: Transportation Quote:
closest drop off location to where a vehicle needs to be picked up .... No one likes to pay for unloaded miles - yet every mile driven to get to where a car waits to be hauled costs money ... Someone has to pay for those miles .... I average 300 unloaded miles on a vehicle haul .... Right now I am headed to Mississippi from Alabama to pick up a vehicle going to Staten Island, New York ..... I have a vehicle awaiting transport on my schedule right now from Bakersfield, CA - another near Lancaster, PA .... The time frame for moving a vehicle ultimately is up to the person paying for hauling - the sooner you want your car picked up generally speaking the more money you will pay for the unloaded miles required to drive empty to get it ..... ;) That is why I maintain threads showing where I am headed to next, I usually can get a vehicle hauled in 30 days or less with minimal unloaded miles. Re: Transportation Go with either Passport Transport, Intercity or one of the larger companies that use enclosed semi-trucks with lift gates. You'll pay a bit more but will get reliable service, responsible drivers, top notch equipment, driver's experienced with vintage cars (I have had truckers show up that did not know how to operate a manual transmission!!!), proper loading and tie down (an important when it comes to early cars or unusual cars) tracking, and, most importantly, recourse if something should go wrong. I ship a lot of cars and always recommend that my buyers spend a bit more and go with the tried and true companies. Like everything else in life, when it comes to transportation, you get what you pay for. Look at it this way, you're spending several thousands (if not a lot more!) on a car that is important to you, why argue about a couple of hundred dollars when it comes to shipping?? Usually the price difference between the big carriers and the small ones is only about 10-20% in the long run.

Re: Transportation I just had a 1969 Mustang Mach 1 shipped from Portland Oregon to Southern Calif for a little over $500 with Elite transportation, they did a good job. Thought about driving up with a trailer and bringing it home, cost it out and this was a good deal.
