Kong Oil Filter Adapter

1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys i've attached a picture of an oil filter adapter for a Model A that i picked up the other day for $28 all up. I'd like to know if this is a good deal, and also would like to know exactly how you install the oil lines, and if they are a rare item as i've found absolutely nothing on google so far.

Thanks for the help fellas.

Re: Kong Oil Filter Adapter

I have a Taylor filter and the oil inlet is achieved by pulling the plug out of the block by the oil pump. It's regular pipe thread so that part is easy. For the oil return, you'll have to be a bit more creative. You'll need to find a point that is lower than the oil pump plug so gravity can help the oil drain down. Yep, gravity. The only "oil pressure" in the A engine is the gravitational force of the oil that builds up in the valve galley.

Re: Kong Oil Filter Adapter

The model A engine will pump about 4qts. of oil per minute out the oil pump port in the block at 1500 or so rpm. If you don't think there is pressure there, try removing the plug while it is running.
Rerouting the oil flow to a filter risks starving oil to the center main and valves if it is not set up right.

Kong Jackson built those filters for the Model B engine. Putting a filter on a B is much easier than on an A. Kong was a performance guy, and the B block was more commonly used for racing purposes than the A because of its bigger bearings and better oiling system.

Is it relatively easy to put one on an A engine? A guy over on the HAMB has a Kong filter on his A engine. He said its not too difficult but i've still never seen pictures of one installed. I'm pretty new to banger engines and hopping them up.

Re: Kong Oil Filter Adapter

It attaches to the right front of the oil pan by the the timing cover. If you attach it to an A the oil return has to get back to the valve chamber somehow. I would use it as a remote filter for the horizontal A Afordable type filter with an adapter.
