Flathead crank pulley questions I have searched through all the pulley threads and maybe I gave up too soon.
So the issue is I have a 34 ford with a 1949 flathead running a crab style distributor and truck water pumps and it works great. I am building a new engine and I want use the same set up, but I can't find a crankshaft pulley that works. Obviously the guy that I bought the 34 from had a custom pulley made. Who makes a custom crankshaft pulley? Or is there a Ford pulley that uses that will work? Thanks. |
Re: Flathead crank pulley questions Truck water pumps with wide belts?
Is the stock 8BA stamped steel pulley too large in diameter to work with the crab cap distributor? |
Re: Flathead crank pulley questions Yes it is. The diameter is 5 3/8 or so and I need about 5 inch max.

I have a crab on my '51 Merc engine. I dug up a photo from 10-15 yrs ago. I machined the OD of the pulley to clear. It wasn't a stamped pulley.

Re: Flathead crank pulley questions This is the type of pulley I started with ( crazy price). The front pulley is approx. 5 3/8 inches dia. My machined pulley area is a little larger around 5 1/2". https://www.ebay.com/itm/1949-50-51-...wAAOxyxpxQ7475
