My 36 pickup is getting very close to done, if that ever happens. One thing I am having trouble with, is what kind of weatherstrip will work correctly on the doors. I bought the piece that goes around the hinges, It was too dense and made the door hard to close, and was hard on the latches and hinges. Nobody stocks weather stripping made for 35-37 pickup doors. I am tired of buying stuff that does not work, or fit. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ron P.S. Pictures to come as soon as I can figure out how to post them. 9 1/2 year project

35-37 pickups did not have weatherstripping on or around the doors. I don't believe any of the commercial vehicles did other than perhaps the panel deliveries.

There was a weatherstrip on the bottom of each door. Bob Drake used to carry them.

You are 100% correct Don. My ever retreating mind forgot that seal on the bottom of the door. It's been too long since I restored my truck,

Thanks Lawson and Don for the posts. I wonder if there is a universal type that would work. I have not driven the 36 in cold weather, but I can see daylight all around the door. That is a lot of cold air. Thanks again. Ron

Mine still has the wind lace, such as it is. Would like to find a source for some new material. Small dia. cord wrapped in cloth with flap of material for mounting.

Here in France you can buy fabric covered 3/4"(approx) dia windlace by the meter at the big swap meets.Its like the old time originals over sponge type material.What I got from LBB 6 yrs ago was fabric sewn over nylon tube-which makes it stiff.This is the only pic I have which shows it to left of seat at door jamb.Sold the car a yr ago

I used Steele Rubber Products PN 20-0390-72 door seal. Measures about 5/8 wide and 1/4 thick, with a little 1/32 rib on one edge. Lessened wind noise, and didn't effect door closure too much (bit a little naturally). Where it is really tight in the jamb it has conformed to size/shape.

Albrights has lots of upholstery stuff really reasonable.
I made my windlass out of foam backer rod I bought at Lowes. I wrapped it with the vinyl that my seats were made of so it would match.

Hopefully someone still makes the rubber bottom door seal.
The windlass might be made from the fender welt material which used to be made by Roy Nacewicz and taken over by Michael Driscoll at Third Gen. You would have to trim the fender welt material but it would seem to only take a pair of scissors.
In case it's useful to you, the part number for the door bottom weather strip is 50-812230.

I finally found my original windlass from my '35 truck. It's fairly complete but very dry and brittle. I cut a small section and found a 3/8" OD, 1/4" ID rubber hose in the center of a 2" wide strip of fabric. The fabric looks like it was cut from a medium thickness sheet of woven cotton. I don't see any stitching nor any signs of glue, but somehow this must have been held together. The fabric wraps around the hose just like fender welting. The part with the hose overlaps the door crack and the fabric is nailed to the perimeter of the door opening and under the kick panel, roof and rear corner panel and held down with the metal strips on top and behind the door. I measured both (for the left and right doors) and it looks like about 106" long on either side.

Macs sells Cartouche products and they offer a 10-foot roll of windlace for $29 in nine different Ford colors. The stock number is 32-67938-1.

First, I gotta tell you how much I enjoy Fordbarn. I began using my Mother's 41 Ford opera coupe about 1852. I did learn to drive it....but me and Geers were chasing 3 hot chicks in a tricolor and the little Ford lost it's lead from a previous crash Mother sustains from a jerk running a stop sign. Now I am messing with a 39 ''peecup a 40Merc fordor convert sedan and a #0 Cabby. (We did drive the 3 chicks home and the junk yard claimed another 3 color junker,

You guys are talking about the rubber around the door's edge? My'39 doesn't have such. It does have a rubber strip on the edge of the floorboards that touches the side of the door and about 2 inches up from the bottom edge (rubber shows no wear or much contact with the door. The door seal begins just above the door hinge and goes over the door top and down to the latches. The door closes tight with no rattles. I plan to leave it alone.
