PicUp Rear Bumpers They were not factory installed item were they? Now my licenses plate doesn't properly display directly from behind, it does easily off-side.
I did it because it gives the rear end a finished-look (to me) This is a hobby, a great past-time, not lookin' for points -- just suggestions Thanks Guys |
Re: PicUp Rear Bumpers I have the same issue on my late 30 CCPU. Drive only during the day. I've been driving it that way since 2012, have not been pulled over for it. Have been pulled over a couple of times, was just friendly cops wanting to talk about the truck. Have toyed with the idea of putting the plate in a plate frame and mounting it to the tailgate. Have also considered hanging it under the bed slightly behind the tail gate.
As an FYI, the bumpers can also make it difficult to notice/see the brake light, especially during the day. Have converted my tail and stop lamps to LED, and painted inside the lamp housing white. Also have added a LED Strip Stop light mounted to the tailgate and wired into the brake light. Have definitely noticed a difference in behavior of drivers behind me, they do not get surprised when I slow down/Stop/turn. |

One suggestion seen is to add "sideboards" to the bed. On this put ADDITIONAL tail lights on both sides (not a bad thing for safety) and hang the license plate on the usual bracket below this, thus somewhat above the rear bumper. Joe K |
Re: PicUp Rear Bumpers 2 Attachment(s)
I modified a bracket from a passenger car to shift the plate to the left.

Re: PicUp Rear Bumpers I've looked at using the '32 picup licenses bracket also. You would flip the brake lite upside down so the the plate would be lit. However I've a 1931 Florida Truck licenses
plate that I don't want to alter that I would place right-side. Thanks Guys |
Re: PicUp Rear Bumpers 1 Attachment(s)
Here is what I did. Moved the license plate to the center and used the original place to display "radiator" badges.

Here is the way I put my rear bumper and license plate on.

Re: PicUp Rear Bumpers Mine is not that easy where I can mount to the bumper, I have 2 bumperets instead of the full length bumper.

OK, that's what I have too. Since I never drive at nite -- not changing anything until I'm ticketed |
Re: PicUp Rear Bumpers 1 Attachment(s)
My '31 CCPU has the 2 short bumpers, I mounted the license plate and light in the middle, under the end gate.

Re: PicUp Rear Bumpers taffrail
Home Depot sells a pipe conduit that I fitted around the support bar to installed my plate. I've also used the conduit to attach a radio controller to my steering column. And if I knew how to post the pictures -- I would. If you're interested send me your emailing and I'll send photo. My plate does set a lit lower but nicely between the bumpers Thanks |

Your 31 has a piece/panel under the tail gate, where your plate is mounted. I do not have that. Is this something only on 31s, or is this something you added? |
Re: PicUp Rear Bumpers Closed Cab
I have a round support bar between the bumper frames. Used pipe conduits to mount the plate on this bar. My set-up came off a coupe. Allow me an emailing address and I'll supply pictures, the conduits were about one dollar each, as I used the smallest sizes from Home Depot. I think that support bar is standard |

Thanks, I already have a horizontal support piece between the short bumpers, but for other reasons prefer not to use it to mount a license plate. My previous post (Katy) was just my curiosity if the 31s came standard with panel under the tailgate installed. |
