There are reducers for this that do not require any knowledge of the current draw. A simple solution is to use any later model Ford voltage drop unit, salvage yards are full of them and not that expensive new. Something like a 65 Mustang will work, Ford used the same type of 6v gauges up into the 80s I believe, so they all required a voltage dope unit.

As stated all that is needed is one Ford instrument cluster voltage reducer such as this from EBAY as well as others ---

Each gauge and sender draws about 600 mA, at least on my '52 truck. So peak max draw of 3.6 amps.

I had one like 51-Merc linked to, and could see the voltage regulator cycling on the gauges. I switched to this type and they are rock steady:

(edited to correct unit)

Are you sure you linked to the correct one? That unit is rated at 12v output, not 6v.

Ross, will that converter still allow the stock 6V voltage regulator to read accurately?

Re: current draw king seely gauges

Do you mean the ammeter? It has no effect on that, only oil pressure, gas, and temp gauges.
