On the helmet type distributor where the plug wire terminal plate(12116) spigots in ,would anyone have the diameter of the recess it fits into.

Thanks Lawrie

Lawrie., that bakelite plug wire cap seems to swell when they get old and don't want fit into the dist. I usually have sand or file or do something around that cap to make it fit. I have one of those dist in the shop, I can mic the dia. for that cap. Walt

Yes some light sanding on the inner cap. Make sure it goes all the way in and the rotor doesn't touch

Lawrie,

Looks like 3.045 plus or minus a little bit. Seems as if the ones i just measured are a little bit egg shaped ......

Re: helmet distributor

Thanks Guys, what I have is a pile of the terminal plates that don't fit all my distributors,
I also see some of the bores in the distributors are slightly egg shaped,so was going to true them up on the mill, but also see the terminal plates are all oner the shop size wise.
So it may be double job, true up the distributor bodies and file or sand the terminal plates to fit.
This all comes about because the engine I,m building is a 99A block and I want to use the 3 bolt helmet distributor with the 11a advance in,
I have made up the distributor and run it up on my tester, interesting to see how much the vacuum brake adjustment makes to the advance curve,it changes it a lot.
