Door latch My left rear door latch stopped popping back after opening. Upon removal I found the spiral spring was broken. I have ordered a new one, but I need a picture of how it looks when installed and how much tension should be on it. Also any tricks to get it installed correctly.

Re: Door latch I assume this is a Fordor, and not a Phaeton.
I only have pictures of my Tudor and Phaeton latches. |
Re: Door latch Yes, It is a closed car 4 door, Murray body.

Re: Door latch Tom, could you post pictures of the Tudor latch? I was trying to get my drivers side door latch apart last week and bloke it. I managed to force a spring in there and make it work for a 500 mile trip this past weekend. I tried removing the handle, turn 1/4 turn, pull out, and it wouldn't budge. What am I doing wrong there?
Thanks. |
Re: Door latch John, Here's the link to what I posted.
http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...dor+door+latch I wonder how different the Fordor latch would be? I have a spare latch in the basement. I'll have to see if it's what Bill needs a picture of. To remove the door handle in my picture, you must remove the 2 screws on the outside handle, then turn the handle 45*, or 1/8 turn, just as though you were going to open the door, then wiggle it and pull at the same time. Spray some Kroil onto the shaft to help it slide out. I also push in on the latch to take a little pressure off the shaft, as I wiggle and pull on the handle. |
Re: Door latch I just checked my spare latch in the basement, and it's from a 1930-1 Tudor. I'm not familure with the latch on a Fordor, as I don't ever recall working on one.

Re: Door latch I just replaced the spring on my roadster latch. I ground down the press tabs holding it together so you can open it up, put a spring in from my spring parts bin and tack welded it back together and now it works great.
