5/16-24 wing nuts... 1 Attachment(s)
for the hood sides on my 39 peekup. I'm thinking these were used in various applications and numerous years.
Of course I only have one that has good threads and need three more. If any one has these or available let me know. Any input would be great. Scott |

Re: 5/16-24 wing nuts... The pictured wing nut is a "type D style 1" according to what Google finds. I didn't find any fine thread wing nuts like that. If the original style is important to 39portlander he might have to get creative. I can imagine turning a hex nut to the diameter of the threaded section of the nut, drilling out the damaged threaded section in the wing nut, and welding the new threads in.

Was hoping these may have been used also during model A and through the early V8 years. |

Re: 5/16-24 wing nuts... Aren't we talking two different things here? The OP shows a wing nut stamped for sheet metal, while the others are one piece castings or similar. A huge difference if you are going for originality.

Re: 5/16-24 wing nuts... Sorry, no wing nuts in my parts bin. Probably were not on my truck when I bought it so I used hex nuts. Not really sure why Ford used the wing nuts anyway. Seems to me that they don't hold as well and the side panels don't need to be removed for basic maintenance anyway.

Re: 5/16-24 wing nuts... You can run a 5/16-24 tap thru a stamped 1/4-20 or 5/16-18 wingnut to do the job. The application doesn't call for a high load fastener. Jack E/NJ

Re: 5/16-24 wing nuts... Well fellas thanks for taking the time to look and post. True those panels probably will not need to be removed a lot, I just liked the beefy wing nuts that I had on there.
They resemble the wing nuts holding the air cleaner cover atop the carb on the old 351's. Well not many people are gonna look into the engine bay and say "Dang dude those wing nuts are incorrect for this truck":D |

Re: 5/16-24 wing nuts... If you have the correct thread I can drill out the old one and laser weld the new thread in. Will work just fine. Laser welder is really good for micro work.
