fuel pump push rod
 

need some help changing out the Offenhauser 2x2 manifold that came with the car for a single factory alloy [39 239ci] wondering what length push rod will be required Have measured the height of the stand face and its 32mm or 1.25 inches from the manifold deck if thats any help :rolleyes:

here we go again so swapped the manifold short pushrod total failure fuel pump hits manifold and wont seat [yes the glass bowl mounts on the underside ] step 2 made spacer and refitted with longer pushrod so far so good untill now fuel hoses are now the problem pickup fitting pionts directly at the oil filter and wont fit [hose bends kinks and rubs on oil filter ] need 90 deg fitting any idea what threads are involved as current fitting appears to have a tapered seat .

Can you rotate the fuel pump body one pitch on the screws and get an alignment that will work?

The threads are 1/2"-20 fwiw but it's not normal to need a 90 degree fitting.

As stated the six screws that hold the top and bottom sections together can be removed to rotate to a position that works.

When you made a spacer, did you make it for the longer pushrod - so a pretty tall spacer? It will have to be exactly the right length or the pushrod will not engage and drive the pump as it should. These pump shafts don't move much (off the cam), so everything has to be the right combination of parts and the correct lengths. Off hand I can't remember the length of the longer pushrod - but is is about an inch or so longer (so your spacer will be thick).

If you had the short pushrod, then you should have had the correct parts. Did you push the fuel-pump down and feel the spring loaded action? If the pushrod happened to be at the TOP of the cam eccentric, then you'll be compressing the fuel pump mechanism (spring) as you install the pump - so it wont just drop down as you might imagine - you have to compress the spring.

You can easily just turn the crankshaft 360 degrees and this will rotate the cam eccentric 180 degrees to the other side. This should make the fuel pump easier to install.

Again, if you have the short pump push rod and that manifold, you should not need, nor can you use a spacer.

So - given the chart above you most likely have either a 7.872 length pushrod, or you decided to go to the 1" longer one - at 8.872. If your manifold has the low fuel-pump riser (which I believe it does), then you'll be using the shorter rod and you should NOT be using any type of spacer on the fuel-pump stand.

yes billet spacer 1" or 25.4mm fitted nicely splash shield fitted right in and pump sat on spot on didnt think about reindexing top to bottom of pump will try that if fittings dont work stand alignment moved from 45 deg across crank line to 90 deg with replacement manifold and without the spacer the body of the pump actually hits the manifold so no choice really

I've hung out with quite a few Kiwis and had a bunch of close mates from OZ . . . the lingo tends to stick as it is ingrained in one's brain over a few too many oilcans. LOL

found an an fitting that was slightly off when tight was able to shim the fitting with a copper washer refitted fuel line fitting all good plenty of clearance all round
