Hi guys

Little off early Ford but will use on F1.

I am a newby in welding arena. I bought an old/used Lincoln SP-100 (see pic). While practicing on old piece of sheet metal, I ruined the tip. Probably wire feed to slow or too hot...but getting off my need.

I went to Home Depot and bought new Lincoln tips. Only to find when I got home the thread diameter is smaller than my machine. Anyone know where I can find these old style tips?

I went to local welding shop and they said I needed buy all new hose torch setup.

I'd check ebay, amazon, McMaster-Carr. Do a search with the model number.

There's a ton of stuff available for that model. An entire new gun / hose assembly is cheap. Here's one of many links - this one Amazon.

Thanks Mike, I did try eBay and Amazon. But they looked like the same tips I got from Home Depot. I’ll continue the hunt and also look your hit box suggestion.

usually at a real welding store they have enough tip variety's to make your head spin. gotta have model numbers when shopping

If you buy the entire assembly (about $50) , you get tips. Plus the assembly is now of a more modern design should you need more parts in the future.

Sorry didn’t think I would run into this issue, it went in trash

I found manual online, pic had model number of tip I need. However, also read a post it’s discontinued and replaced with, kb2011-2b1. However not been able find that either.

Find your local welding supply. You might be able to change the diffuser to use the current style tips.

If they repair machines, like the place i deal with , they have used parts.
Depending on how old your machine is and if it sat around a long time with wire in it, chances are it needs a liner. A bad liner will cause you more problems then just with tip burn back

Ad that all up you can buy a new gun.

The SP-100 tips have a thread that is 6mm. x1 dia.

Notice that your machine is set up for gas.
Suspect that it was converted to gas from flux and non Lincoln components were used.
This is the standard SP-100 wand.

Are you using flux core wire?, also get yourself some nozzle gel, helps the spatter not to stick.

Looks like a gas conversion to me not flux-core.

If you are using a gas conversion you must make sure the polarity is correct, when I switch from GMAW TO FCAW . The polarity for FCAW welding should be set for D.C. negative electrode, A.K.A DECEN and for GMAW ( Mig ) the polarity should be set for direct current electrode positive A.K.A DECEP or reverse polarity, I Use mostly 75/25 gas for general Mig Welding and 90/8/2 in some cases, depending on what I am welding. The wire and gases I Use depends on what material I am welding ,you can expect a good deal of spatter when using flux core. That torch looks like a Tweco I had , I bought some parts from Harbor freight.

I too own an SP100 welder set up with gas, which I’ve owned for 25 years, purchased new. The tips are not threaded into the torch but are off-center. To install they need to be put into the torch and turned one-quarter turn to lock in. My welding supply store indicates these tips are no longer available and I need to buy a new torch with the threaded tips. If anyone knows where to buy the old tips, I’d appreciate knowing where.

I had the same issue with my old SP-100; new tips are not compatible with my 20+ year old torch. Spent an hour at my CeeKay welding supply source in St. Louis and they were totally stumped. Could not find an older part number, and none of the old-timers at that store and the other store they called could find something for me. The newer torches use a screw-in tip, and mine has a 1/4-turn camlock effect. There's no obvious camlock feature, though; it just looks like a smooth round bore in brass and a smooth tip. But it really works after a 1/4 turn. I have one decent tip left, and when I bugger that one, I will probably buy a complete replacement torch

Bernard guns use a 1/4 turn tip. But i dont know if they make a gun that small.

In the past i also noticed that the lincoln machines sold at home depot were not the same as the commercial models.
