Morning .....

I made my weekly check on my cars in Winter storage and guess what.....I shaved off some Irish Spring Soap and placed shaved pieces on each Dryer Sheet in my '40. Made my check yesterday and the little bastards ate the soap on the sheets upfront and kindly left some poop !

Looking for Plan "B" now !!

I put good old fashioned baited mouse traps around my car. They like peanut butter and seem to go for that before getting into the car. So far so good.

Had the mice in my garage and then in my kitchen two weeks ago. They stole the bait off the snap traps and didn't set them off. Got some sticky traps and that was the end of them.

I like the peanut butter covered water bottle in a 5 gallon bucket trap. You tube it. You can catch a lot of mice in one of those.

I go all in. Sonic unit, mouse X pellets glue and regular traps. I then use mint mouse repellant in the car. From what I hear, the dryer sheets and irish spring both changed formulas. so far I have gotten one mouse in the glue trap and no other issues.

I found out that the little bastards like solid, slab Styrofoam as well as Styrofoam peanuts. Had a pair of NOS aluminum heads sitting in the box of peanuts that they had previously been shipped to me in. Went to look at the heads again a couple of years after I put them in the garage on a shelf. Cardboard box was gnawed-open and the heads both had corrosion spots where the little frikkers had whizzed on them. They did the same thing with another box out there that had a previously-purchased (yet un-opened) mini refrigerator in it. Finally went to open and use the unit and found that the slabs of Styrofoam used to protect the outsides of the fridge had been gnawed-on so badly that the container was full of styro-dust and chunks. I tossed that one! DD

Put twist ties on the old fashion snap traps with the metal tang. They won't clean them off anymore. Coworker taught me that one has a very low fail rate.

What RalphM says about the 5 gallon bucket trap works! We set one of those up at the hunting cabin during deer season and we were catching mice every night. I was amazed because there was little or no sign of mice in the cabin. Made a believer out of me.

The wife threatened to leave if I didn't get rid of them. After two weeks she was still here so I got rid of the pests as one pest is all I could take. Mark

Next time, tie a piece of monofilament fishing line in a small loop around the bait on the snap trap. When they try to steal it, their teeth will snag the line and they will set it off every time.

I had problem in barn, used pellets which they eat and take back to nest for the family. Also hang a bag of moth balls under hood of tractor so they don't eat wiring. Been doing it for 20 years and every now and then after winter I find a couple dead ones. Keep the pellets year round.

Yep, I've them eat the Irish Spring as well. I'm sorta glad to read this, as people would not believe me and thought I was nuts.

All you need is a 1/4 inch thick sheet of ice about 1 foot square with a 1 inch round hole melted in the middle.Next, sprinkle about 5-6 frozen peas around the edge of the hole.When the mouse comes to take a pea, kick him in the ice hole.

Oil drain pan with some drained coolant/ anti freeze.
Also kills any thing else that might drink it.

I think keeping mice out of our cars is impossible. One of the local guys purchased four large cookie pans. He jacked up his car and put a sheet under each tire and filled it with waste oil. I don't know how it was possible, but somehow mice still got into the car!

I would be interested in knowing which traps they are stealing the bait from? I have not had that with the old wood ones, but have with the new ones. Guess they still haven't built a better mouse trap.

Based on what I have heard... and found in cleaning my Dad's garage out. Open antifreeze atracts them. one container had 5 of them in the bottom drowned.

Anti freeze has a sweet taste and attracts them, as it does with dogs and cats, too. It is a lethal poison, which is why you need to be so careful with it around the pets. DD

The new snap traps suck. They have a plastic bait platform that isn't very sensitive and I even tied bait to them and they didn't set them off. The sticky ones work if you don't mind the little basters suffering, I don't. Avoid using antifreeze if you have pets, they like it too.

After conventional traps set with peanut butter rid my basement of rodents, repair of broken vent screens and plugging in several high pitch noise making devices has kept the critters out of my basement for the past 20+ years. Humans don't hear those devices, but animals do, including family pets, so don't use them inside the house, just where you don't want any animals to go. For my purposes then, knowing that bait attracts all animals, I only used that to get rid of them initially, and used the other means to keep them out.

I tried dryer sheets and they used them for nesting material. While visiting the automobile museum in Norwich NY, I saw they had a little plate of mothballs on the floor of the cars, I tried a dish full of mothballs on the front and rear floors, so far it seem to work.

Tinker, I use those victor traps. They are the best I have used, but it seems that the newer ones do not have the "hair trigger" that the older ones have, and you have to tweak the trigger a little. I was having the mice steal the peanut butter without setting off the trap. I dug out some older ones, and they worked within 10 min. of being set.

Mothballs always work for me - course the car has to be aired out when it comes out of storage. I also put some pellets under the car just for good measure.

When our house was being built, mice got in the HVAC ducts. I watched one go between the slats of a register - wouldn't have believed the space was wide enough. Wife didn't want me to use pellets for fear mice would die in the duct and stink. So I put traps under the registers - caught a few but didn't solve the problem. I finally told her either she let me use pellets or I put a snake down the ducts - she opted for pellets. :D
