Is API SL Service oil detergent or non det?
 

I just uncovered a case of oil purchased quite a while ago and the label markings do not clarify if the oil is detergent or non detergent. It is Ashland Auto Star brand SAE 30, and labeled as "meets or exceeds API Service SL/SJ". I just need to know if it is Detergent SAE 30 or non Detergent SAE 30. Thanks!

detergent, check any oil brands at your local wal mart, sl/sj are all detergents

Thanks Ford 3. There are no big box stores like walmart within 75 miles of my town. My area auto parts store did not know.

and you will not find any service rating on non detergent oil, at least i have neverr seen any, the only reason i but non detergent oil is because my air compressor maintance manual says use it
