Tire Questions

Eventually, I will need to purchase a new set of tires, and I'm curious to see what the current thinking is on tire purchases. When I make the purchase, I'm looking for the best "bang for the buck," not the cheapest tires that I can find.

Assuming that I drive the car a lot and dry rot does not become an issue, how many miles should I expect to get out of a new set of tires?

Does one brand tend to last better than another?

Does one brand tend to install easier than another?

Does one brand tend to ride more quietly than another? (I don't think my current set of tires is balanced at all, but I don't notice any tire vibrations.)

In particular, are there any brands to avoid?

Is wheel balancing an issue more so with one brand than another?

Are there any other considerations to make when purchasing tires?

Re: Tire Questions

I have Lester white wall tires on my '29. 7600 miles since 2011 when I put on 4 new tires. All 4 are balanced. I am a 35-40 mph driver. Mileage certainly depends on the condition of your car. Mine must be OK as the tires show very little wear. Be prepared to get lots of opinions . Bill

Re: Tire Questions

Firestones are supposedly what they had when new, but the ride from Lester's is much softer. Easy to mount on rims.

If you have a heavy Townsedan, be sure to use a stiff tire like Firestone. The excessive yaw was killing me.

price has a lot to do with it, so if you dont care, buy the best.

These questions have been asked many times in the past. Along with the suggestions you get from this thread you may consider doing a search for even more opinions. :p

I'm thinking whether to buy radial tires or not is the key issue these days.

I’ve read about radials some. I’m not opposed to them. I’m not as much concerned about buying the absolute best tires. I’m more concerned about unintentionally buying bad, problem prone tires. I’m looking for the best bang for the buck.

8000 miles and no wear! Unbelievable. Amazing.
