Insurance
 

Expect to have a Model A in the near future but do not have a clue on insurance considerations. What are the typical limitations imposed for casual/occasional utilization. Any companies provide coverage/cost that serves the hobby particularly well ?

Ditto, Have 5 vehicles with them '29 Coupe, '29 CCPU, '31 Tudor, '31 AA, 1982 Jeep CJ7. Total cost is about 500.00, I live in rural VA retired and do not drive them to work.

Been a Hagarty customer for years but recently changed to Grundy because of them insuring my business. I think both have great reviews.

Some companies have restrictions, some don't. Price also varies, but is generally very cheap. Mine runs less than 200 per year, no restrictions except that I own more than just the A.

I use American Collector for the 9 Model As and a 34 Ford that I have insured. I have had only one claim and it was settled very agreeably. Nice folks to deal with.

I keep mine on State Farm with no driving restrictions, but it is not cheap.

Check with the company that insurers your everyday car. I know the AAA has a division (for lack of the better word) that insures antiques.

If you have been with an insurance company for your home and cars for a while check with them first about a Model A. They should be able/interested in giving you a good quote. Only restriction I have is I may not use my A as a daily driver for work. I do " daily drive " it for fun. Bill

1. Which company are you using?

2. What are the restrictions?

3.. What is the cost?

Mine is under Grundy with no restrictions that I know of. It is under my son's policy as is the registration, so I don't know the cost. Jack

I use American Modern thru the National Corvette Museum for my Vettes and Model A. Call 877-678-7626. They write in most states and can take care of you.

I use State Farm with no restrictions, I use it as my daily driver to and from work and out and about the county. i spoke to Hagerty, they would not insure it as a daily driver. The fellow said they are more into show and hobby cars
Cost I would have to look up but I think around $300 per year.

Hi, I have my 30' Tudor insured with Hagerty as a "collector car" for pleasure use, about 3,500 miles per year, with an agreed upon value of $20,000 for $204 per year in Western PA. I discussed all of my "modifications" with them such as modern Weber carburator, seat belts, turn signals, higher compression head and an overdrive transmission as well as my intended use as a pleasure vehicle, not limited "club events and cars shows".
All of my regular autos are with Erie Insurance but they advised me that they really aren't into the collector car market and suggested looking into companies that are. I have not had a need to file a claim so I can't give you a rating on they they handle claims but there was plenty of input from folks who did and all of them seemed to be satisfied, I was with American Collector Car prior to Hargerty and I had no complaints with them either, I just thought Hagerty seemed a better choice for my situation. I was referred to American Modern by USAA, my regular insurance company. Very happy with coverage and service. My policy has an agreed amount of coverage - which is something to be aware of.

I use AAA, with the only restriction being I can’t use it to work regularly. I did have Grundy several years ago, and later found out they did not approve of me using the Model A regularly for going to the Post Office or the store. Once in awhile, but not on a regular basis. I even called them to clarify, and they said that was correct.

I too have Hagerty and agree that it is reasonably cheap. That's all well and fine but I'd like to know what other's experiences have been when they had a claim. I haven't had a claim and hope not to have.

I had State Farm years ago on my home and regular cars, because it cost less than their competition. Well, when I had my first claim, I found out why it was so cheap. They shafted me and then I started hearing all the horror stories about them. I assume by now they have probably changed or they'd probably be out of business by now. Have not heard of any recent problems with them.

I switched to Liberty and for years they were very good, rates and paying for small claims. Then they started inching up the rates to ridiculous. I then switched to USAA and got the same coverage for half the price. Have been pleased with them regarding a home owner claim regarding storm damage.
