Coupe Glass Replacement
 

I have a question for you glass experts in Ford Barn Land. I have a 1930 standard Coupe that needs new glass, all except windshield. Does anyone have any idea about the difficulty in removing and replacing the window, quarter and rear window glass on this vehicle? Any comments, suggestions, or lead me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

Once you pull the interior upholstery panels it is really just a couple of screws to pull out the inner frames of the windows. The only part that I found tricky was stretching the rubber seal around the new windows.

I replaced mine in a '29 Coupe, all of the interior material and panels had been removed, so the process was a bit easier. I was also prepping the window garnish mouldings to refinish. If you can salvage the original glass, you have good patterns to take to a glass shop for patterns.
Glass setting material was easy to work with, patience is key, try to keep any seams (joining ends) top center. I used binder clips around the corners of the rear glass to retain shape and keep wrinkles to a minimum. When replacing garnish pieces, tighten the screws evenly around the frame, it's easy to over tighten and stress crack the glass.
Good time to check body wood if not done before. Good luck..kb

You can buy pre cut glass and the other needed materials from the better parts suppliers if you do not want to involve a glass shop.

This is also a good time to service the window regulators and channels if needed.

It fit great without issues, came packaged in a double industrial box, and they were wonderful to deal with. They also list their items on Ebay, but wanted to give you the direct information.

Thanks, Guys. I already contacted Vintage Glass. I was thinking about buying a complete set of their green tinted glass since my vehicle has Vintage Air installed. The existing glass has already had tinting installed but the job quality is exceptionally poor. The regulator in the driver door needs repair or replacement as well as the channels in both doors. I was most concerned about the quarter windows. The interior is already finished so all the panels would need to be removed to do the work. I thought it would just look nicer to put in new tinted glass than just having the existing windows re-tinted. As usual, thanks to all who posted comments.

The quarters and back window shouldn't need more than the metal bezels removed to do replacement.

To answer you original question, the difficulty of performing any task relative to a Model A is relative to ones experience, ability and tools to do the job. The quarter windows on the Coupe will be the most difficult as the interior panels will need to be removed and replaced. Take your time and good luck.

Ok I don't get it. Why do the interior panels need to be removed? I have done this job more than once without any upholstery molestation!

I think the original question stated "all except windshield".., leading some to respond with panel advice. It is possible to just unscrew garnish pieces and replace glass.. in my case the interior was being refreshed, to include some wooden pieces, and rework on the door window mechanisms. kb
