'37 Ford windshield crank

I am installing the windshield crankout handle in the dash but do not have the part that holds the handle in place. Perhaps some kind of split ring? What is used? Is the part available, if so by whom?

Also, the shaft that the handle attaches to is high in the opening. Can this be adjusted? I'm a little reluctant to try prying it.

As I recall you use a C clip to hold the handle on the shaft. I think you can find the clip at an Ace hardware store. I think the mechanism mounts on a bracket under the dash and you may have to bend the bracket down a little.

I went through this recently, and took some pics along the way. There is a special clip that holds the handle from coming off. I ended up using a snap ring on one of my 37's and the original clip on another 37. Pics attached (I hope)

Thanks jseery, you would think I could have figured this out by now.
The middle pic shows the "custom" solution I did for one car. The third picture is original parts. It is hard to see, but the washer is very thin and wavy (provides compression).

Spring washer?? Think that’s what they’re called at Ace. Mike

Right on, spring washer is correct.

Thanks all for your help and the photos were very helpful!
I stopped by ACE and finally used an e-clip.
The reason was the c-clip didn't seem to have enough surface to hold the handle on and I wasn't able to get the spring washer installed.
The e-clip I used needed just a little finessing (bending to slightly smaller radius) and I filed small notches in the two ears closest to the opening to fit the handle correctly.
