Close call today fuel everywhere.

I let attention lapse on my '37 Ford coupe last year or so and thought it would just be its old reliable self and it seemed to at first.Started right up but rough running ,smelled gas and it was everywhere over generator with its paint peeling off,all over firewall, heads ,battery, very lucky it did not catch fire before I discovered. At first I thought fuel pump or a fuel host to pump split but must have been a stuck float? if fuel pump kept pumping fuel everywhere.Guess I will find out this week when I get time. This was a lot of gas all over garage floor, thought it was coolant when I backed it out.I feekl very fortunate.

Boy I sure am glad luck was with you. My guess it is either junk kept the needle valve from shutting off the fuel or the old float finally sprung a leak and sunk.

if you have a stromberg carb it best to change to a grose valve instead of the needle and seat type

It is a Stromberg 97 but one of the new ones .I bought it years ago from Uncle Max.I don't know if he is still on Fordbarn.I would say it has run good for 12 years or so.Time sure flies.

That's a mighty good reminder to check the extinguishers in all my old heaps.

If it's the float - and from what you've said it just might be - I will still WARRANTY it. Quite possibly the best warranty on the planet. Just let me know...

Oh yea and quite frankly I am glad to see he is still on Fordbarn and still at it. I think his profile he used to use showed he is about 130 years old by now.

130 year old central nervous system in a 75 year old body, to be exact.
